Right, you may have noticed that I've pencilled you in for a 1/2 marathon for Jan/Feb - that seemed to be something like what you were suggesting.
Given that that is now the next main focus, you need to be working on increasing the size and number of your mitochondria. Mito-what??? Exactly! I'll explain later, but Google it for now.
To do this you need steady-state runs of 4+ miles at 60-70% maximum oxygen uptake. Roughly speaking that means a pulse range of 120-140 if you've got one of those new fangled whizz bang wollop bits of kit for your wrist!
Don't worry about going too far for now, theres plenty of time to build the long runs up - 16 miles should do for now!
Thanks.
A mate of mine met Ron Jeremy in Vegas. He smelt his finger. Ron said "not today"
Half marathon is what I'm after I think, but I'll try to find a reasonably flat one to start things off easy!
I'll be increasing the MitsubishiLancers just as soon as wikipedia explains them to me.
OK, so 6.5K (4mile) minimum runs from now on. I've got a Nike SportBand, which sadly does not tell me about heart rate. I think I'll have to guess at 60-70% oxygen uptake!
Just 16 miles for now then, no worries *turns around and walks away crying*
P.S. as the site seems to have gone down, I'm going to add a bit I found on wikipedia on mitochondria: "Mitochondria have been implicated in several human diseases, including mental disorders, cardiac dysfunction, and may play a role in the aging process.". Oh goody! I hope that means they are part of the process, rather than the cause!
Becky, hope your friend is OK, sounds like he is. Back to running when you get back!
redsquirrel, you can do easy runs the day after training runs, you don't need to stop completely but you do need to go easy.Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0 -

It's only £1.50 per week and you can join as many of their runs in a week, (mon - sat) although i expect i will only do one with them, one with runchum on sunday am will do me fine (plus 2 swims!)
Surely the weight will start to come off soon....... i am feeling a difference and think i have lost almost a stone... but it is very slow... i eat fairly well, but i know i could do better... however i just hoped excercise alone would create a deficit and weight would come off quicker...
however slow weight loss is better, isn't it....?
Yes, slow weight loss is better; 1-2 pounds is fine, any more and your body goes into starvation mode.Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0 -

Ooh, I hope you didn't follow a googled link to him from work?! It's the reason I always use wikipedia. OK, I know it's only as accurate as the people that post, but it's a good first reference point.
For those who don't know, Ron Jeremy is (was?) an adult film "actor" he looked like a fairly ugly fat bloke, so no idea how he got picked for it. OK I can probably guess, actually. And no, I've never seen a film of his to prove my suspicion!Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0 -

Don't you just love Wikipedia!
They're your cellular powerhouses. God knows how they're implicated in all that, but I wouldn't be without mine, I'm actually quite fond of 'em! :rolleyes:Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j
