Red - I was just going to say I might join you on that one until I realised it was a direct clash with London. I do need my London Marathon fix each year even if it is only via BBC!!Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Back on the road (ok, country lanes) again today and, even though it rained much of the way round, I had a very exhilarating, brisk walk that was much needed after a hectic weekend. I really felt renewed after getting back and showering....... after having many of the outdoor variety!
Have fun all with whatever you're doing.

Hi - guys - hope you dont mind me invading your thread.
I have been trying to read through it over the last few days - you all seem like such a supportive bunch that I thought I may join you if thats ok.
I am running the 10k at sandringham on the 28th september. feeling very nervous!! I ran the 5k race for life in may and really havent done very much since - its now less than 3 weeks to go (it seemed like such a great idea a couple of months ago!)
I am currently trying to lose weight (have lost 29lb since feb) but still weigh 15 stone. Luckly I live in a very rural area so can pretty much run without being seen. lol
Am currently doing about 2.5 miles. unfortuently its been very infrequent over the last 3 weeks. I am on nights at the moment so the idea was that I would run when I get home in the mornings before I go to bed but I have been so tired that this hasent been possible!! I cant go when I get up as there is not time. I am on nights until next friday morning so have another 9 to go. that only leaves about 8 days before the run to get some exercise in. I am at a loss really for what to do. I am not too worried - I think I will just about be able to struggle round for 10k (6 miles) but would like to do it without requiring hospital treatment at the finishing line!!!
anyway - if anyone has any tips I would be eternally grateful.

Hiya Jenny,
Welcome along. Obviously there is very limited time to get any training done, but anything you do in the last 4 days will be counter productive (ie you will do your body damage from the training without leaving enough time for the repairs to take place "The Training Effect").
So, from where we are now I think all you can do really is do as much as you can in that other 5 available days knowing you're going to get 4 days rest before the race. If you feel you can run 2 miles, say, then try to do a 4-mile session with a 1 mile walk to start and a 1 mile walk to end. The additional walking will strengthen tendons and help with muscle fatigue on the day.
In those last 4 days try to fit in a thorough stretching exercise each day. Stretching helps to release the accumulated waste products from muscles into the bloodstream to be got rid of.
But above all, relax. Whats the worst that can happen? A 10k walk - if thats what happens so be it.
Or you could take a leaf out of my book when I think I'm going to be near the rear - a quick investment in some bunny girl ears, a pom-pom (for the rear end!) and a bucket for charitable donations. And, hey presto, you then don't look out of place at the back! (Ok, that's the first completely useless comment of the day, but I'll hazard a guess it won't be the last!)Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j
