Sensible until 6 days ago? - I'll have to take your word for that! Oh hold on, I can check....I maybe sometime......

I take your point. I'll settle for Obese Veteran for now - too much self-flagellation is not good. Btw I'll only be an Overweight Veteran soon. :o

Well I'm an overweight newbie! Mind you it's not likely for me to get under 25 BMI as I'm fairly short (5'7") and stocky. Even when I was 16 and very lean (virtually no fat) I weighed nearly 11.5 stone, which had me around 25 BMI. There are better measures, like even just waist sizes (I wear a 34).

    Must...do...better!;)

Haha, no rivalry on my part at this point, just curiosity. Sounds like we're fairly similar; youngish (OK I'm 31, so not as young as Idio!) bulky blokes trying to shed some pounds by running! My only competition so far has been against myself i.e. my own targets.

I'm trying to stay where I am weight-wise for now so I fit in my suit for my wedding in (counts and then has to sit down when he realises it's...) 4 weeks tomorrow! That's come around quick! Well I have my stag this weekend which will bring it a lot closer to home!

You've hit the nail on the head, beinerts.

Take no notice of my ramblings, its all a bit tongue-in-cheek, although any figures are accurate.

If anyone wants to get fit they really shouldn't pay any attention to BMI, weight or any measure other than how the running is progressing.

When someone starts to train over the first 4 weeks or so they should see their waist measurement come down and their weight go up (due to the production of much heavier lean muscle mass). So if they were to be on the scales every day it would be quite a depressing story. It matters not a jot - the training will sort the weight out.

Indeed! Anyway, I'm much too lazy to be anyone's rival :)

Unless it's a cake eating contest, that is :)

Yep, or more importantly, it will sort the FAT out! Weight in itself isn't the problem! I've never been a fan of BMI. I haven't lost much "weight" but most of my clothes don't fit me anymore. I have a pair of cargo shorts that fall down without a belt. That tells me more than the scales do!

Interestingly, I've had the exact opposite experience thusfar - am just short of 2 stone lost now, but my trousers fit *no better* at all...I think my belly's so perfectly spherical changing the size of it overall doesn't change the size of it at the bottom, if that makes sense :)

Anyway, off, funnily enough, for a run now - catch ya laters!

Well good luck for the big day, you'll need it! ;)

I do hope you're not going to be giving this lark up once you've got past your 'motivation target', ie fitting in your suit. I'm talking about the forum, you can give up running if you want. :rotfl:

Haha, no I'm planning on keeping both the running and the forum participation up. I'll be taking my running gear on honeymoon, or I might swap for swimming over the 2 weeks if the hotel pools are nice and relatively empty.

P.S. thanks for the "good luck" wishes. I hope I won't need it!
