  • i didnt get to list 25 as we had a busy weekend but I di some and have updated my list on the firsat page

goldiegirl you are right! it takes ages to phot and list and measure and prepare but I keep thinking of that holiday and it will make me determined. I need £500 so if I made 50p from everything after fees i'd have enough.

This sounds like a good challenge for me! I've got 100 lots on eBay at the moment. It's more than 100 items as some are bundles, as some things seem to sell better like that.

Right! Have had a good rummage round the house and shed and have decided to join you in your challenge, blackbetty:j.
A kick up the backside will help me no end.

Will still be selling heavy, bigger stuff at carboots together with anything problematic to mail cheaply and also stuff which is no better than tat but for some reason does well at carboots for a few pence.

But I've got a big box of old postcards, a lot of cross stitch patterns and materials, vintage sewing and knitting patterns, some old magazines and various small, light bits and bobs that I could sell on ebay.

As someone has advised I too use Turbolister which makes the job of listing less of a chore especially as I always use 7 day auctions ending on a Sunday evening and this way I can list a few as and when I have the time during the week.

1000 items is only about 20 every week on average so I'll see how I go.

Won't bother to itemise everything I've listed, just the number listed and sold each week, maybe profits made(said she optimistically:rotfl:)

    Good luck everyone
  • Hi
This thread is inspiring me to get back on the ebaying once I have a bit of time free!
Just a quick question to Tirian and carbootcrazy - did eBay change the rules re using TurboLister and free listings?
It was ages ago when I tried to do this but I had a few things saved, then went to list them on a free listing day and it was charging me fees as it said free listings didn't apply if you used 'professional tools' like TurboLister, so I'm assuming this has changed now if you're able to do this?
Unless I was just doing something completely wrong which is entirely possible!! :)

This is a great idea. I do not have 1000 things but am moving and clearing out so I will see what I can do.

I had 6 items finish yesterday and made £56.62 two of the items (star wars Lego) sold for more than I had orginally paid for them asi bought them in the sainsburys half price toy sale.so far very pleased.
  • I am going to spend the next couple of evenings combing the house for bits to sell! That might mean sneaking things out of the hoards that my oh keeps. some of the boxes have moved with us three times and they are still unopened from when we packed to move the first time, they cant possibly know whats in them now.

i am really glad other people are getting involved as it will keep me focused wyhen i get lazy, just as well it isnt a race!

    good luck everyone.

I am well up for this :)

So far since the start of July:

Active: 34 (three with bids of about £11)
Sold: 18 (£49.07 plus P+P) - worth saying this averages to about £2.75 per item
    Unsold: 53

In July from ebay and gumtree I made £130 after postage and fees, not including present items for sale. I am aiming for £150 this month!

I always start with gumtree as sometime sprices are fairer due to no postage. Then once on ebay, the unsold then always goes back on gumtree, and after twice on ebay and a few weeks on gumtree I slash the price to around £1 and sell on gumtree for that or it goes to charity.

You can't use turbolister for the free weekends. You can use it for the free 99p listings.

New sellers, or sellers that haven't sold for a while will find they have limits on their accounts, so best to list the most expensive things first, then if you hit a limit you haven't wasted that months listings!

Two tips though for new sellers, firstly watch your postage. There is a sticky thread on the ebay board that explains what you need to be covered. Secondly, once you have enough sales to get visible stars, make a habit of checking your expanded seller dashboard at least weekly.

I've found vintage patterns sell pretty well - especially ones from the 50s and early 60s.

Hmm, the star ratings system does seem to have become incredibly complex - and harsh - since I was last selling stuff.

Basically, it seems eBay don't really want sellers on there who aren't doing it full time. If you're managing sales of a low level, of pre-owned items, and around pre-existing commitments - whether home or work - then they are consistently tweaking the system to incline it towards booting you out.

Oh well. It was good while it lasted, but after this last load I'll be sending out the door I can't see myself getting back into it in any serious way with this kind of regime in place.
