Hi all, I have just sold a book on Amazon (whopee), it is one of a series of 3 books. Would it be totally unethical or against the rules if I put a note in with the book I have just sold to say that I have the other 2 in the series if they are interested? These are two books that I have not listed on Amazon ever as I am still reading the third one and was waiting until I had finished it. What do you all think? Thanks Magenta

I think you would be silly to NOT put something in it !! I always send a 'your item has been despatched ' email and if there are others in the series i add a note about that then, but people dont always read the emails so its worth adding one in the book,

still no sales for me, ironic as ive just started the pro-seller subscription again and have nothing since !!

Can anyone briefly describe the process they go through when posting amazon (or ebay) items to customers, in terms of proof/insurance etc? i read in the first posts of this thread about getting some blank certs of posting forms, is this what everyone uses?

I have posted a few items over the last months (not that many) and have only gone to the trouble of securing a postal reciept for each item, but i suspect this might leave me exposed to possible lost items.

Filling out a form for each item seems like a hassle, and recorded delivery is not really necessary on a 75p paperback. Any pointers would be helpful.

    hi tsharp

very good point i cant help as i just do what you do but would be interested in an answer

just a note i have sold in the last 2 days making me only around £1 profit on each 2 incredibly tatty books once covered in sticky back plastic and the other in pieces with no front cover i listed both carefully and have emailed the buyer to check that they are aware of the state of the book but both seem happy in other words its worth potentially trying to sell anything !!!

I get a proof of posting printout for each one, this shows how much i paid for each item so i use that for my tax. I used to write my own but was told they prefer to print them out now. Everything goes 2nd class unless it gets caught over the weekend and wont be posted till monday or if its really small and costs less than 60p. Ive never had a missing parcel yet and ive sold over 265 items.

    hth

Thanks for your reply Mishka. I have just posted the book as usual. Maybe I will send the buyer a little note saying that I have got the others.

When I go to the PO to get items weighed or stuffed through the slot thingy I ask for a receipt with proof of posting. They write the postcode and house number the item [or items if I'm lucky] are going to on the receipt which is then dual purpose. I assume this is enough to claim from the PO in the event of a packet going astray but in over 100 sales I've not had to do this yet. Had one that took 10 days to go a couple of hundred miles but thats it.

Firstly apologies for not participation in the thread for a while, I decided that my ebay activities needed a shot in the arm so I opened another shop and running 2 of them is a bit schizophrenic, I also do a bit of consultancy work which has found me a client with lots of ongoing work to do so I've been burning the candle at both ends recently.
I still read the thread but everyone except the absolute beginner is far more skilled than me at answering questions so I don't feel as if I have to jump in 3 times a day - you're all just great and the warmth on this thread is tangible
so - certificates of posting question
I still use the Certificates of Posting, the PO staff give me a wad of them at a time - I have full PO kit at home, I have a pack of Special Delivery forms, Recorded Delivery forms, a roll of Customs notes & 3 sheets of airmail stickers but they won't give me a rubber stamp, I'd love one of those....
You can get 10 address on the COP forms and you only need the recipients surname, the house number (or name) and the postcode so it doesn't take too long to do .
  • All the best with your workload,AT:beer:

Just picking up on what you said about filling in the COP form yourself. Does the PO assistant you deal with check every parcel against your COP form before rubber-stamping it? I tried that to save time(with 8 packages) but she still insisted on checking each one carefully against the list so I was still waiting ages and holding everyone up:mad:

I want one of those perspex letter measurers - I got the cardboard one but keep losing it under al the paper in in my "paperless office"!!! :rotfl: No joy yet but I keep asking ;)

I too get pads of the COP forms - even if you print postage online and get a printed list from the PO site you still have to get it stamped - so I dont bother and just fill in the card like AT does and take them all down to the local PO.

I did try the paypal postage thing for an ebay item - once - what a waste of paper!!! And it took ages cos you have to cut it out and sellotape it on ... and another whole sheet per package for the proof of posting!!! Not for me I am afraid.
