  • I tend to do both, so i will put good reading copy only at the start of the description so its seen, then go on to mention all the major flaws !!

Got a really bizarre feedback yesterday,

I have given excellent to as this book arrived looking like new this book arrived on sat 20th but i donot mind somtimes how the book lookes so long its not falling apart and is worth what is payed in this case it was well done"

She gave me 5/5 but it took me ages to figure out what she meant when i was shattered last night !!!

It gets worse  the buyer removed the above feedback after a couple of days and has now contacted me to say the book ordered on the 10th Oct has still not arrived.

Ive got a horrible feeling this one will be awkward :o

Sounds like a buyer from hell! Have you checked what feedback she's received as a buyer?

I managed to get my chat-room fix elsewhere but really missed not having MSE.

As for sales and stuff, I just wish they'd stop trying to fix what isn't broke over at amazon and fix things like the search engine!

Getting kinda fed up with emailing customers about books that haven't arrived yet due to the postal strike. Mainly items sent on the 15th-17th!

  • Just a quick question,

Whats the minium you will list a book for, if there's for example a 1p book do you

    A) list it at 1p
    B) Don't bother listing it at all
    C) List at a price higher than 1p and take a chance?

Just wondering what people do as I'm starting to think 1p books aren't worth it.
  • penny books are NOT worthwhile at all for the non-pro-merchant seller as the amount leftover from amazon fees won't even cover the shoe leather, petrol time for a special trip to the PO that will probably be required.
Many PM sellers wold also hesitate to list a penny book unless they have very low storage costs, are assured it's a quick seller, it's a large letter size or have a PPI contract. Having said that it seems plenty of sellers do list books at a penny when there is no need and will price match others who have less overheads down to a penny quickly when there is no need to, especially if only a few copies of the book do exist.

There is also a webpage listing sellers to avoid pricing against as not only do they list heavy books for a penny, they will run undercutting software to reduce undercut other sellers prices, often hourly, to ensure they do have the lowest price copy. Often you can find a good selling book priced down to a penny as 2 sellers running the software against each other will reduce the price to a penny. You can find that page here

I have a very strict criteria for 1p books. They have to be in a very good condition and be very high in the rankings, I prefer them to be in the top 500 or so. If they do not fit that criteria then I pass them on.
A pro seller will get £2.44 for a 1p book (if I remember correctly) so assuming it goes as a package 2nd class at £1,52 the profit margin is quite poor hence the need for it to be on a quick turnaround.

hi i do list some books that the lowest price is 1p however i list them for 75p and only do light ones at that i ensure that i give an excellent description and have sold quite a few like that above 1p ones if you understand what i mean the good description seems to allow the book to go for a higher price however when i de stock i tend to delist the books which others are offering for 1p

one of the nice peeps on here will tell you shortly how many books per month that you need to sell to make it worth while i think the figure is around 30 however if you are close to that mark you dont have the hassle of having to relist them all as they stay listed for years!!! but on saying that it wouldnt take too long to list 120 books

    good luck
