Our post boxes are taped up, and the PO will not take any so mine will sit here untill Wednesday. I think that most buyers will accept that their orders will be delayed and will in no way blame the seller. I'm not sure what the fuss is all about really lets enjoy not having to go to the PO on a daily basis - just for a few days anyway. I do feel sorry for those that rely on their Amazon sales as a main income but there is nothing we can do.
  • Hi everyone

I sent a book to Denmark on 5/9/07 and today it has been returned to me. (I think the sticker says incorrect address (er ubekendt pa adressen/Inconnu))

I have just emailed the buyer to ask what the correct address is and whether she still wants the book or whether she wants a refund.

The address I used is the one Amazon gave on the SDN.

My concern is that it has already cost me £4.60 to post and if she gives me a different address to post to it's gonna cost another £4.60 and then I will have made a loss.

What do Amazon recommend about this? And what does everyone else think.

    EE

Okay so the buyer has replied to my email to say that Amazon had the wrong address (I guess she means she did not update her Amazon address after she moved).
She still wants the book and has offered to pay extra postage via Paypal.

What shall I do? Is it against Amazon rules to take extra money?

    Thanks

RE postal strike..I've just had some very odd feedback and wonder if my buyer has mistaken me for someone else. Sent book on Thursday 2nd class and the feedback received today is says fantastic service arrived day after purchase...2nd class post in the strike taking less than 24 hours, has the world gone mad? This was incidentally an ebay book sale not an Amazon one.

It would be nice if some post is still getting through, I've had quite a good day on Amazon and even had a sale on greenmet and two books sold on ebay ( only 2 mind you)..so as planned I'll take them all to the PO tomorrow and send them second class and see what happens. Obviously I have warned by buyers about the delays.

Well amazon's new 30 day refund rule has a part in it which says if the seller is at fault for a return they have to refund the whole sale PLUS the buyers return postage, however amazon do not provide a system that allows you to do that, therefore they are condoning the use of outside payment methods for that, so why not when a buyer messes up?!

All these postage strikes are getting me down, even though I have sympathy for the 40,000 workers who may lose their jobs and the pension mess up. I wish they wouldn't do such long strikes as they are losing all their big contracts left right and center and we all know what is gonna happen eventually, higher prices for the little guy

I've been selling quite happily in October. I have done 9 books this month and most are text books netting me a good profit. So I'm very happy.

Yup! There are reports of mail still being delivered, though few and far between!

Would like to know if you used stamps, or you got the PO to put labels on it? As mail with stamps usually goes first class as they can't easily tell it's second class so don't sort them seperately!

Though as an account holder I'm pretty shafted as I've been told I'm not getting a collection until Wednesday, so am emailing my buyers explaining and offering a refund if this is not acceptable! Sales are down about 75% as a result of the strike I imagine, unless there is something exceptionally good on the TV this weekend!

At least it's giving me a chance to sort out loads of old stock and get rid of it to make room for fresh stock!

Hi rare-stuff , my books go with post office labels on them all the time..both of the post offices I use never use postage stamps.

I'm certainly getting no post here but my post offices are still open and are very happy to take mail, the post boxes were still being empted as at Saturday when I last looked as well. My son at uni has had post during the strike as he did during the last strike.

I didin't realise that the RM account holders weren't getting any collections at all, that must be a right pain when you are trying to run a business.

One other thing, while Amazon are telling us all to post as normal I see they have switched away from using Royal mail themselves so I doubt they will be sympathetic to us sellers if we start to get buyer complaints...I will be very cross if my stars start suffering on Amazon and Amazon don't help us out at all with it.

I think it's only second class or standard delivery that they have switched from royal mail but still use it for first class though this may well change, although all small packets are still being delivered the final leg by Royal Mail. This loss of business cost RM several Million £, though some of this they will get for the final leg of delivery from, I believe it may be TNT.

I saw recent reports with RM claiming to have dealt with 45% of the mail within the system normally, though there was an admission that the amount of mail being dealt with was significantly lower than normal 'due to customers not posting mail as requested' no mention of the fact that most business customers relying on collections have no choice, which would normally make up a significant proportion of the mail in the system.

I love statistics. I don't know what percentage of the post is accounted for by business sellers but they are happy to leave that percentage out of the equation when telling us how good they are doing!

I'm just off to the PO now with another batch..wish me luck!
