Selling your Stuff on Amazon Part 10 - Discussion Thread

I put holiday settings on and emailed the 2 buyers asking just like you did. IOf they don't reply I will send a copy and a note with each book and push it out 1st class next Wednesday in the hope that mail posted then will get through first ... do they not realise they are shooting themselves in the foot as far as public sympathy AND losing business hand over fist is concerned? Hopeless ,...
Am going to sort what few books I have to list and maybe make a start on thinning the stock and selling off the low ratings in bulk maybe. We are, *fingers crossed* moving and I will have no storage space at all for books - cant even fit most of the furniture in! - so will probably be selling off all my stock before the end of the year anyway.0 -
Well, since my last posting amazon have made the following seller announcement;
Dear Sellers,
As you are probably aware, an industrial action will soon be taking place at Royal Mail. This industrial action may result in the parcels being delayed.
In order to minimise the impact of this industrial action on your business on Amazon, please remember to:
- Dispatch the orders within 2 working days after you have received the order confirmation
- Pro-actively send an email to your buyers when an order has been dispatched, reminding them that the industrial action may delay the delivery, but that the order has been dispatched within the time limit of 2 working days. To send an email to your buyers:
- Logon to your seller account
- Click on View your recent Marketplace orders
- Click on the order number
- Click on Contact (buyer name)
You may also want to think about choosing another carrier.
Thank you for selling on Amazon.co.uk.
I think their advice is counterproductive since surely there is no doubt that there will be delayed delivery and sending in 2 days as normal could mean the packet sits in a backlog for weeks. As for choosing another carrier will not be doing that unless it makes financial sense - as far as I can see Amazon are just being unhelpful to sellersI want to give good customer service but don't see how their advice makes this more likely
Fed up now

I'm posting out as normal for two reasons. Firstly I stay within the 2 day time frame that Amazon require, and secondly my post got through very quickly last time so I'm hoping for the same this time.
Even at the height of the strike last time I was getting feedback about fast delivery, so it's still worth a try. The strike is not total despite what they say on the TV, there are a few, admittedly very few, areas where post will drip through. My son at uni was getting regular post as normal all through the last strikes as none of the management there went on strike and so and picked up some of the walks themselves.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. surprised this thread is so quiet since the 2 recent posts by amazon on seller announcements in regard to the postal strike, and requirements to still dispatch within 2days! And the format change of the SDN.

If the only condition of Amazon sales is that we despatch in 2 days then we don't have a problem as post offices are still open. I will not however be faffing around to find another courier for my stock as whilst I can still post I'm not unduly worried.
It is all academic anyway as I've completely stopped selling again, someone has obviously put my settings on the back burner.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I did weed out a bit of rubbish though and plan to continue sorting through the older stock as some is just not going to sell and I'm not going to bother storing £2- £3 books if they are in the millions ranking wise.
Hi soolin and all
Despite the great declutter, I managed to hang on to a couple of bookcases full of books, obviously lol, so I might start selling again on Amazon.
I kept meaning to ask you before, because although I still haven't had the time to read all of the threads and posts, I keep seeing the 'rankings' mentioned.
I've tried to read between the lines of the posts, but does a low-ranking book stand a better chance of selling than a high-ranking one?
(It's probably a stupid question, but I guess someone had to ask it)

Thanks v. much boston_uk, I'll check what I have now although I'm in two minds whether to sell at all now. After I posted that question I noticed a mail from GM saying that I'd have to claim for a lost book. The book was ordered 8 weeks ago! What is it with some people?
It's ok though as I have the C.O.P. (which really surprised me as there's 100's and 100's and I'm not always that organised) but it really took the wind out of my sails
I now know how others feel when they've had a book go missing. GuttedOh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive. ~ Sir Walter Scott0 -
I think I've joined Soolin on the back burner. Sales have completely dried up. Perhaps customers are holding off with their orders until this postal mess is sorted out.
Still at least I won't have to worry about books getting lost in the post and having to issue the dreaded refunds in a few weeks.
So, I have got around to cleaning my oven this afternoon and am feeling rather chuffed as it is a job I particulrly hate.
Lets hope things get back to normal soon - historically this run up to Christmas has been my busiest time of the year with book sales.AMAZON SELLERS CLUB member 0033 come and join us :j make some space and get hold of some cash, we're on the ebay and other auctions, car boot and jumble sales board0 -
Me too, no sales at all recently. I suppose it's because people are holding off because of the strike. Well gives me a rest from going to the Post Office!!:smileyheaMagenta0
