    Hi

I have just received a question about one of my books.

Someone has said they have been searching for years for a copy of this particular book they remember from their childhood and was my book the same one.

I sent them a message confirming that it was, but in the meantime, I have upped the price of the book a bit! I feel really tight! If they don't buy, I'll drop it down again.

I can't believe how bad I feel about this :o

If I'd enquired about this and you'd upped the price as a result i'd be  if there was no other copies of the book available I'd probably not buy it, or buy it anyway and give negative practice at such a charlatan practice!

If they'd asked for specific shipping or packaging you could have negotiated a price rise quite happily, but sticking up the price just because the person was interested really isn't good practice.

If the item had gone pending and was the only one available or the order had been cancelled, I would possibly re-list at a higher price, but not in the circumstances you suggested.

But what is the difference!? Mine is one of 2 items - the other being very highly priced from America. I added £2 on (which I hasten to add I did feel bad about and had since reduced back down).

I am not sure if your advice sounds contradictory (I may be reading it wrong), but why would it be ok to up the price if an item is pending but not if someone had made an enquiry? I had an item pending recently and within a few days the sale completed, as there had been a credit card problem. Wouldn't that have been just as 'charlaton practice'!!

You cant change the value of a pending sale as such because that buyer has commited to buy at that price, however if that sale fails to proceed then as Ive said before I always up the price a little as if its sold once it will again (in theory ;))

But I agree with rupert that upping the price on someone who has shown an interest is unfair practice, if they didnt buy after a week then perhaps I would make an increase as it would appear they didnt want to buy after all.

Do you post to America? I have my account set to UK only and someone in America has tried to buy a book off me and emailed to say it wouldn't work. I've always thought it would be too much hassle - but I'd welcome advice from anyone who does ship abroad.

I'm relatively new to Amazon but I've been selling on eBay for a number of years and (touch wood) I've never had any problems with shipping abroad.

The main things to remember with the shipping is to pick the best rate which for books is normally "printed papers" and "small packet" for other items. You'll also need to complete a CN22 customs form and stick it onto the package, these are available from the PO and you specify the item being sent, its value and its weight.

For expensive items there is an issue with regard to insurance which I don't believe is available when posting to the US - maybe someone else knows the answer to this?

    Hope this helps!

Just posted to USA myself and the above post is pretty spot on, The postage allowance is int he region of £6.40 a book and in the past an average size pap[erback cost me just over £3 airmail, I sent 3 books that had been sold for nigh on £200 and the postage plus insurance cost just under £10 (£4 odd of postage and £4 odd for insurance not good with remembering money ;) )

I always take my parcel as normal and let the PO worry about the rest, just make sure you put your return address on the front top left corner,

Has anyone any experience of selling CDs on Amazon? I went to a Car boot on Sunday and a stall holder offered me a box of cds for £1 coz he wanted rid of them and didnt want to take them home.
I listed them last night and there about 20 decent priced ones - even if I sell only one I will have made a profit!
So I was just wondering how well cds sell (just out of curiousity)

    Thanks

Hi Christina, I've listed and sold a few CDs on amazon - as with books its not the ones I expect to sell that do sell! I've only listed ones that don't have hundreds listed and will make a decent price. I think its worth doing and have bought a few to sell - one had a buyer waiting which was a treat :D

    Good luck with them
