I must say that I am always intrigued when I see books that are sometimes posted for sale at £25 or more when new ones sold by Amazon themselves are selling for about £6.99 and everyone else is selling theirs, (new, or as new) at more reasonable prices. Why is this? Do these sell do you think? Also how is that some sellers have 6 or 7 new copies of the same book filling all the pages, are they allowed to do this? Just ruminating you see!!;)

Hi everyone. Could I ask whether any of you sell international or the to the states, and does it get you many more sales? I am about to start the process of revising all my listings and am unsure whether to change them to international or not. I really could do with bootsing sales as I have had to reduce my hours at work so the extra cash will be handy.

    Many thanks

    Hi foxybabe,

I changed all my listings to international when i had to re-list and since then (month or 2) ive had 6 sales from all over (out of about 40). I personally found it to be financially beneficial as the postage allowance is greater, and i sell small paperbacks. Each one ive sold has been a highly priced one over MANY at a penny (last one was £2.75 with 3 pages of 1p books before it)

  • Hi Foxybabe,

Most of my book listings are set up for international and I sell the odd one now and again - well worthwhile I think

I do restrict my international listings to books though and then only those under 400g as any heavier and you start to loose out on the postage.

Remember to send them Printed Papers rate if they are books as the airmail rate is slightly cheaper than small packets most of the time - your PO person should tell you which is the best to use though

    good luck

    OK somehelp needed please!

I have a book which is listed on amazon with no copies and a search of bookfinder and all the usual ones turn up no copies anywhere. Mine is signed by the author (a dedication).

I thought of putting it on at about £75 and seeing what happens, but dont want to undersell - what do folks reckon? Don't you wish you could see what the last copy went for!

Not an easy question, I have a couple of books myself that I can't find out about - like you I don't want to undersell them as they are both 1sts and reasonably old.

    Hi

I just wondered if anyone has a 'formula' for deciding whether to sell a book or not.

Do you decide that you are only willing to list and store a book if you are likely to make a minimum of 50p (or some other figure), or do you list anything as long as it makes a profit, even pence?

I am starting to question the logic of storing oodles of books that will only make a minimum profit IF they sell. In the meantime I have to try and find somewhere to store them all.

I am thinking it might be better to freecyle all the paperback books that won't make me at least £1 profit and all hardbacks that won't make at least £1.50 profit. That way, all my efforts with listing and storage space are on the more worthwhile valuable books.

    Any views?

I have to do something soon as I still have about 7 boxes of books in the loft that I haven't even looked at yet!

Personally I only list them if they are going to make at least £2 profit and are either very specialised (like the vocal studies book of mine I just sold for £25 which didn't have a ranking at all) or have a half decent ranking. If they are in the top 500 I will accept minimum of £1.50 profit for a faster sale. Like you I only have limited storage so need to be a bit picky! Seems to work for me though

The last two I asked about on here i emailed bloomsbury about - no answer to date and that was about 2 months ago so I don't think they were interested. At least I can find this book in the listings - just there are none for sale anywhere I can find! The other two just didn't appear to exist anywhere at all!!

    *sigh*

Well I'd be happy with £75 I suppose if no-one has any ideas - we need a rare book expert on here!!!!

    Hi Boston

Thanks for replying. Just out of interest, how do I find the top 500 best sellers? I can find the top 100, but not top 500. Am I missing something??
