    Hi,

Just thought I drop a quick line to thank everyone involved in this thread. As an Amazon newbie it's given me a good understanding of what I need to do, how to judge prices correctly, etc.

    The result?

Well I started listing yesterday and had my first sale within 2 hours - hopefully this will continue and I can start my journey towards being debt free!

    Thanks again.

    Another one hooked!

    Well done SandP.

The last person I introduced to Amazon now keeps their car on the drive and is measuring their whole garage for shelving...and they were just going to stick to 'a couple of boxes'.

Welcome to the thread SandP - those sold dispatch now emails are addicitve be warned :D

How is everyone doing? I think the selling fairy visited me and stayed over as I had 4 sales this weekend - three on Sunday. Not had so many together for aaaages. Long may it continue - am saving up for a pallet so every bit helps [not sure OH appreciates how many books that will be] he he

Sooo tempted by a pallet, as the limited books that I want to sell from my own collection and those that i spot and buy in charity shops are not selling so well right now. OH would go mental if a van load of books arrived.

Amazon doesn't state you have to send first class. However its a subject of a lot of debate amongst sellers. I'll try to summarise some of the points that usually come up in the discussion and theres a section on 'postage costs' in the first post in this thread which would be worth reading. There is also info on Amazon's pages too.

Some buyers feel they want to send 1st class and can use that as a selling point in their listings.

Others feel it cuts into their often slim profit and anyway first class doesn't get there any faster.

Some buyers get aggrieved at paying £2.75 for postage [set by Amazon] for a thin book which might have a 60p second class label on it - but thats how sellers make any profit selling 1p books. Also packing, storing, tax, envelope or materials, time going to PO etc all need to be taken into account.

Some folk use stamps or other systems so the buyer can't tell if its 1st or 2nd class.......... lots of threads about it........

Personally I say in my listings [fewer than 200], 26 feedback only about 1 in 4 or 5 leave feedback so I'm not a big seller that I'll post next working day which I do but unless it was an expensive buy I tend to send 2nd class. Touch wood and hope I haven't jinxed myslef I've got 25 5/5 and 1 4/5 which tend to positively mention speed of item being received so I don't think it affects my sales badly but other sellers have different opinions. No compulsion from Amazon though to send 1st class.

Bet you're sorry you asked now after that essay:rolleyes:

    Good luck

I use second class as first seems no quicker round here and I've had no moans yet about the service.

Having said that I am still waiting for an Amazon marketplace purchase I bought 9 days ago to arrive..I am hesitating contacting the seller yet as I don't want to look like I'm hassling, but it does seem a long time to wait for a UK seller.

If it hasn't arrived with 14days it is definitely worth contacting the seller. Is it from a small seller or a new/like new from one of the big boys/girls like wickedwendi, aphrohead, less4books, as these seem to have a practice of ordering in new titles that they advertise as in stock but actually aren't!

As for the 1st/2nd class question, nowhere does amazon state what service you should use, they only state you should dispatch within 2days of order. I send out 10's of books a month and all second class and have never had any bad feedback as a result, only 1 person in the last 400 has marked me down to a 4/5 and mentioned the reason for it as using 2nd class. Though I do dispatch daily and within 24hours, except at weekends.

A tip for those who wish to use second class, if you use stamps, the PO doesn't actually work out whether your packet is first or second class and it goes as first class, and the customer can't tell which service you used either. Items franked or stamped with labels in the PO as 2nd class do tend to go 2nd class

I have emailed my seller today and rather worryingly have had a reply that they will check if it has been sent

Fed up now as I'm bored of waiting for it.

    Hi,

Hopefully this is a simple newbie question -

I have a book that was printed in Vietnam and has no codes associated with it. If I search Amazon.co.uk there's no reference to the book, if I search Amazon.com then there is one (it's B000IUQGFK). How do I get this book set up on .co.uk so that I can sell it??

    Thanks

In simple terms you need to be a pro seller to set up books that aren't on their database - but if it is on Amazon.com you have to cheat to do it even if you are a pro seller.
