  • Hmmm things to do when no extra pennies due, any suggestions? I have lots on the go but no payouts due on surveys, next expenses payday is 16th December, nothing selling on fb site, no bills that i can sort and reduce at the moment, CB comes in on 10th December.

Need inspiration to add more pennies to the credit card.

    That's a pretty rubbish post - sorry!

  • Morning all, a few manic days including a trip to Cardiff yesterday and back home a long way to go for a 2 hour meeting but never mind.

I've just made another small payment to cc, so now down to £1300 should be able to make another payment next week and I've just submitted my expenses for this month of £176.75 which I get back mid-Jan.

Only one more Xmas present to buy for my elderly Grandad and finish making the hampers, I need to get some finished by Monday as I'm off to my hometown on Monday so will need to take some down there. Driving down Monday morning, concert in the evening in London, driving home Tuesday via my friends house! Home for a few days then in Manchester on the Saturday for another part of my Athletics course, then Xmas Eve back down to South Wales to stay with the in-laws.

Phew I'll need a holiday after this Xmas.

Hi Chrysalis! I've found you :j Had a read through your diary and you seem to be doing really well!! Congrats on getting the credit card down to £1300!! Your almost there! :D
I love your idea of the xmas hampers as gifts as well - It's a nice personal touch and very thoughtful of you!! I wish I'd thought of something like that before hand as I love baking...not too great at the decorating part yet though :rotfl: That can be another thing to work on in 2014 I think...Although I'll have to find someone else to eat them :p
Yay for almost being done with your shopping as well!! Sounds like you have a very busy week coming up though....xD

  • Well hello and happy new year, it's been a while since I posted but I have been checking in with other diaries to keep me on the straight and narrow.

Christmas break was eventful, 2 days before the big day the washing machine packed in, I knew it was on it's way out for a while but it chose a particularly great time of year ;) Anyway as we were away we decided to leave it until we returned from the inlaws. Now have a happy new machine and for the first time in ages no credit card or borrowing was used for it's purchase. :j

Christmas at the inlaws was stressful, they drive us both mad m-i-l with her expecting dh to do all the cooking even though she is a good cook, neither of them really spend much time with the kids f-i-l was on his computer most of the time, but worse is the complete wrong knowledge they have of dh in terms of his intelligence, his Mum asked if he was going to lose weight we we got back (he is not overweight!) and they both listen to wrong information from his sister (this time in the form of him apparently saying that he didn't want to be Executer - can't spell this word - of their will. We left a day early which says it all really.

In money news we have had a boost to the coffers in the offer of settlement amount for PPI on a very old loan, dh got his cheque this morning and I am waiting for mine. Both got £387.02, dh is using some of his on kayaking kit and I'm going to get some much needed clothes and then put the rest on the credit card.

I need to start focusing again so balance book is out, I've sold a DVD on Amaz*n and have some clothes to obtain cash for. Credit card is currently down to £1225.

Back to work tomorrow and will be so busy especially as I now have another course to complete over the next few months, organisation skills will be at their highest.

  • Evening all!

Sent off DVD that I sold yesterday which has netted me £5 and clothes exchanged for £3.78 of the English pennies so will round it up to 10 squid to the card.

Also had an email at work to say that the fees for my degree had been calculated wrongly so will be paying £80 less this year.

Little bits at a time but getting there!

  • Well hello, long time no post but still reading all the diaries.

It has been manic here, working lots, many assignments to complete and general busy family.

Whilst progress on the card has been slow, we have managed to get some bits done in the house that we have been trying to do for the last couple of years! We now have boarding in the bathroom ready for tiles to be laid, dd has a door on her bedroom, another quote for the tiling will be tomorrow evening and loose floor board fixed.

Payments to the card will get a boost later this week, had expenses paid from 2nd job and the pay will be in on 25th, get a free month from energy supplier so £83 to move over.

However very annoyingly dh has been invited to his friends stag do, it's an all day event, plus night out in Manchester, plus hotel, plus clothes an shoes, plus spending money. It's going to be expensive! I don't understand this whole thing about making it into a massive event that puts pressure on everyone to pay ridiculous amounts of money. The wedding is in May so more expense, sounds terrible I know. I need to get dh to look at generating some income for his social function.

  • Morning Chrysalis

Well done on getting all those jobs sorted out in the house, sometimes they need to get sorted first and then you can get back to hitting the debt. Looks like you have done well on the card though, quite abit paid off.

What a pain with the stag do. I get really annoyed with these silly expenses. We have been invited to a friends birthday weekend in London, thankfully this is something that we can politely turn down. I can't face the thought of blowing £500 on someone else birthday do, when I don't get a single thing for my birthday :(.
I appreciate that its abit harder to get out of a stag do though, especially when its hubby.
Its amazing thought how oh's manage to work abit of overtime or sell something when its something they want in danger of not happening.
Last year hubby desperately NEEDED!! a shotgun for our farm. I told him we couldn't afford it, all of a sudden he was doing overtime and selling things off out of the shed .;)

Maybe you oh might help take the sting out of the cost of it.

    Take care hun. xxxx
  • Thanks, dh is going to chat to his friend, it's not him that is organising it but the best man who comes from money. I don't understand why it's in Manchester when we live in North Wales and have all that stuff up here.

DH and I just chatted and it get too much not only that wedding in May but we've been invited to another wedding in Scotland in August with the kids. We just want to hide away and get the debt paid and get some work done on the house!

Bah to weddings, ours cost £1000 in 1996 paid out of savings and basic supplies but a bloody good p*ss up!.

I'm getting so mardy in my old age (37)

  • Hi all,

Hubby has decided not to go on stag do, phew it was going to end up costing a fortune so really pleased.

Submitted meter reading for gas/elec and only owe 67p for the winter period which is pretty good going, hope to start reducing the heating usage as the weather hopefully improves.

Have a meeting for second job tomorrow, so will earn some earn pennies and mileage then 2 more days at work and next week is half term so at home with the kids and three assignments to write.

Pay day for me is on Friday and planning to sit down with hubby to look at what needs to go out over the next month.

We were due to have a tiler come round this evening to give us a quote for bathroom but he didn't show up, so frustrated with these people as this is now the fourth person to let us down!

Right kids need to get in bed, 2 hours of work then I'll be hitting the hay as busy day tomorrow.

  • Good afternoon, I have been out all day with the kids at a Science Centre it was really good fun and the brilliant thing about is they have an eating area set out so they have no problem about bringing a packed lunch. We also watched a Chemystery (not a spelling error) show which was interesting and the girl doing it was fab with the kids in the audience.

It's an odd half term for me as I have got so many assignments to write and also session plans needed for the next block of Athletics, we are hoping to get another coach on board who can help move the club on further and really build on our work with a view to building a facility in the area. This would be amazing! :D

The tiler called the next day, he had some problems the previous day, anyway the final bit of work is being done on 11th March and it will cost a little more than thought due to removing the toilet and extra tiles under the basin. I have managed to budget for this really well which just shows that if you want something you'll do what you can to get it and I need to apply this to the debt busting too.

£310 needed - £80 from no gas/elec payment this month, £50 from no water payment this month, £50 from second job and £130 from child benefit. Perfect.

We also had a quote from a window company who were in the area as dd room is next to be done, £1000 for 2 windows which included a 50% off reduction ., I'll be sticking to the local company who have done the other windows.

So good progress with house, no progress with credit card I need to sit down and look at this in more detail.
