  • I'm currently sitting in my lounge after scraping enough money to take my dd out for a birthday tea and I have enough left until c benefit goes in on Tuesday to buy a bit of fuel for the car and a few bits of food. Then I'll need to use the cb until Friday when our whole world will change.

In complete contrast this time next week we will have the funds to pay off all the debt apart from the car and the mortgage. We had a surprise call from the inlaws to say that they are giving us a lump sum of money, £10k to be exact :j :D. This means that we can actually start living again and focus on doing up the house and saving a deposit for our next house.

I can't wait, we will have some money left over that we are going to keep aside for savings and a bit for Xmas (which will still be frugal) and I am planning on overpaying car funds as much as I can.

We are so fortunate to be in this anticipated position, never again will we be in debt to this extent again!

Counting down the next 7 days :T

  • Wow thats fantastic news, must feel like a huge weight has been lifted.
  • Thanks pwps, it is a massive weight off our shoulders. I was thinking though that we will actually be in the same position as before we had to change the car but as we will be paying off all the fiddly debts and saving so much on interest I not complaining!

Frustratingly my dh seems more interested in budgeting now we will have a current account in the black, still at least he's interested.

I can't wait to see all the cleared balances and receive closed account letters. My next plan is to carry on working on the car repayments, maybe saving to pay off little lump sums such as £100 a time? Or should I save more?

  • A delay from Friday to today, now a further delay until I don't know when, not sure when we will receive the money and have had a crap morning trying to find some funds as my expenses didn't go in today as they should have done.

Had to borrow from my in-laws so I can get food and diesel until I get my wages go in on Friday.

So scrimping continues for now, at least I know there's sunshine ahead but frustrating non the less.

  • Oh joy, got home today to find a bill for just over £500 for overpayment of tax credits, I phoned them to find out what the hell was going on since I haven't been entitled to it for over a year.

Apparently this was from the first part of the new period from April 2012 until July 2012 when I stopped claiming, it seems that it takes 16 months for them to send me notice of their final calculations!

I hate them, I phoned to complain and find out why it had taken so long to sort and they came out with a load of rubbish about taking time for final awards notices to be calculated.

Therefore since it was their useless system I told them I could only afford £10 a month to pay it back, sod them they can wait for the money and will also be receiving a letter of complaint in the post.

    Makes me so cross!

  • Expenses finally went in today, good because I have a fairly long trip tomorrow for work and will definitely need diesel by the end of the week.

  • Hi all,

2 days until payday, I need to put some aside for Arg*s card and also put some in overdraft as it's not looking very good.

I also need to sit down at some point and write my letter of complaint to tax credits, it may not do any good but at least I can vent my frustration over the situation.

Xmas shopping at the weekend, taking ds to look for cheap jars so I can make chutney for the hampers. I also need a pair of trousers for work as I currently only have 1, usual mse ways will kick in for all purchases.

Work is going to be really manic over the next few weeks then a lovely 2 weeks off over xmas, dh has been told he has to work xmas eve so drive down to in-laws is going to be hell when he finishes!

I've been reading NinjaSavingKat's diary and have found it really motivating, need to give myself a kick up the bum and stop moaning and start doing.

  • Good morning,

At home with ds as he is full of cold, gives me a chance to catch up on paperwork and housework too.

I've paid all payments due on credit cards and a small payment to overdraft 1, I think I'm going to wait until I've done the xmas shop tomorrow to sort out extra payments. I'm sticking to just making hampers for each family, so some cooking to be done over the next few weekends.

Need to get dh to refocus to stick to weekly budget for food and spends so will sort this out later, and do a meal plan for the week. A colleague has given me lots of curry sauce and food packets that she won't use so that's a bonus. :D

Not much else to report, see you later.
