  • Hi, any advice? Delayed BA flight from Vegas to Glasgow, 11 hours stuck at airport. Was not advised about duty of care. Only found out later from reading forums! Flight was delayed in Vegas due to crew member taken ill before take off. Missed take off slot and had to wait. Applied for comp but have been turned down as BA stating its not their fault (!) 11 hours in Gatwick with no help or money to buy a coffee, grimmest day I've ever had. Due to missing connecting flight there wasn't another one till late evening and that then turned out to have an hour delay. Left Vegas 13th early afternoon, arrived Glasgow 14th at 10.30 pm. I have spoken to customer services about the refusal and logged an appeal. Am I wasting my time? Cheers.

Vauban's guide is the place to start https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5173888
If you have further questions there is a BA board.
When were your flights?(you have stated days but not month/year)
Were the LAS-LGW and the LGW-GLA flights all on one ticket?
  • Sorry, flight was Dec 15. All flights were on same tkt.

I was not sure as a couple of points did not look correct

    For clarification
You were booked on BA2276 scheduled to depart LAS @ 15:50 and arrive into LGW @ 09:45 (14th Dec) and then booked on BA2958 to depart 11:25
The flight from LAS arrived into LGW 52 minutes late @ 10:37 (gate arrival time) and you missed the 11:25 departure
BA's next flight to GLA was scheduled to depart 19:35 and arrive 21:05. It took off at 20:04 and arrived on stand in GLA 21:13 (having landed at 21:06)....I am not sure where "arrived Glasgow 14th at 10.30 pm" comes from (which is why I queried the month)
Your compensation request will be based on delayed arrival at GLA. (scheduled to arrive 12:55 so arrived 8hrs + late)
whether compensation is due will depend on the reason logged for that 52 minute delay from LAS (there were a few flights with delays around the same time)
Duty of Care should have applied in Gatwick irrespective of the reason for the delay. Anything you spent on refreshments whilst waiting for the later flight would have been reimbursed with receipts (did you not have a card you could use or withdraw some sterling from the cashpoint?) If you spent nothing, then there is nothing to reimburse.
Best bet is to follow the advice in Vauban's guide and issue a NBA if you believe the information being given re the reason for the delay is incorrect

Have posted this on the BA board board too as not sure if its a BA or AA problem?
I need a little help please.

I have recently been on a trip with the kids on a AA booked codeshare flight .
On the way out it appeard that due to a "PNR" (unsure what that is) my tickets had not been issued properly by BA for the Ba segment eventually this got sorted after about 3 hours and new tickets issued.
On the way home at MCO we were advised that yet again our AA segment was fine to Chicago but our connecting flight with BA had been cancelled by them due to no show on our lGW to MCO leg,
Luckily i had the boarding passes still that showed we had indeed been on our flight,
We were informed after around 2 hours that although we would get to Chicago on our original flight we were not going to be going on our original connection and would instead be booked on a later flight as they had to reticket us and the BA flight to LHR was already fully booked.
We got home 3 1/2 hours late but am unsure who we complain to?
is it BA who the flight was with and who cancelled our flight twice or AA who our flight was booked with and who we had no problems with.
So is this classes as a delayed flight or a denied boarding ?
We were reticketed both on the way out and the return?
But only the return flight delayed us as they were able to re issue us tickets on the way out.
  • My return flight from Sharm el sheikh to Manchester was delayed by approx 24 hours in November 2015 following the suspected terrorist attack on the Russian plane. Will I be able to claim compensation for this as was a government decision to suspend flights?

  • Hi,

I was due to take a flight from Bristol to Shannon, but as we approached the plane which was on the tarmac on the bus from the terminal (the bus actually got to the steps leading up to the plane!) we were told that there was a problem with the aircraft and that we had to be sent back to the terminal; our choices on arrival were as follows:- all passengers except 10 could get on the Dublin flight which was on the tarmac ready to take-off, but as there was no room for everyone 10 "volunteers" could get the next flight to Dublin (a 7 hour wait). Once at Dublin, a shuttle bus would then take you to the destination at Shannon. As I was one of the 10, I ended up at Shannon at 01:00am the following morning - a resultant delay of just over 12 hours.

I have applied for compensation, but I have been told that the original fault for the Shannon plane was due to a lightning strike which made the plane unsafe, and the interpretation I have been given from Stobart Air (the carrier) is
"there are number of exceptions to the passenger compensation payment of €250.00. One of the exceptions is where a flight is cancelled due to an aircraft being grounded due to damage being caused by a foreign object in flight. On the date you were due to travel we were unable to operate your flight due to the aircraft scheduled to operate your flight being struck by lightning on an earlier sector, which would possibly have had safety implications if we had operated without carrying out required maintenance checked meteorological conditions being incompatible to operate a flight safely. We would not be in a position therefore to offer monetary compensation at this time."

What I wish to know is would this be worth pursuing any further or am I being fobbed off?

    Thanks for your help.
