  • ColinAvison Hope you enjoyed yuor stay onece you got there, I rang up Thomas Cook this morning and was advised that they did not pay any money for delays as they are accidental and not done on purpose.
I was also advised that they do not have to provide welfare drinks, food or accomodation this is at the airlines discretion and comes down to the duty manager what she wants to give out. I can see Yvonne the duty manager now sitting there telling us there was no accomodationavailable in the whole of manchester and trying to get people to take £15 to cover welfare from 16.00 to the next morning .
I am going to use the letter as written out by cityboy post number 567.
If you want to pm me we can ensure that we use the same information as some is a blur now and we would not want conflicting evidence, but want to claim for the same thing.

If you still haven't had any luck let me know. My family and I were on this flight and we have had some compensation from TC.
  • Can anyone help me?
On 15th January our TOM2634 flight from Manchester to Geneva was delayed 13.5 hours due to our plane being used to go to Tunisia to pick up any passengers who wanted to return. The holiday was booked as a Thomson package ski holiday. No food was provided on the plane as Manchester airport had "run out". We aslo missed our evening meal in resort.
I wrote to Thomsons asknig for compensation and have received a letter saying they cannot pay anything except £5 each for our flight meals. They talk of replanning made by the airline and say this is beyond their direct control as a tour operator.
I have read posts on this forum but am confused about any differences between a flight booked directly and a flight booked as part of a package holiday. as Thomsons use their own planes I can't see why they talk of the " carrier" as though they are not Thomsons.
  • THanks Cityboy for your response.
I know the reason for the delay and have a letter from the tour company giving the reason as " affected by re-planning caused by political unrest in Tunisia". Are you saying I should persue this with Thomson Airways rather than Thomson the tour operator?
  • My wife and I suffered a delay of 11 hours and 20 minutes on a Thomson charter flight from Bridgtown, Barbados to Birmingham earlier this week. Is there any prospect of obtaining compensation from the airline for this delay? As we were about to pass through Passport Control we were handed a letter by a Thomsons representative confirming the details of the delay in case we wished to pursue a claim via our own travel insurance. Is the airline thus absolved from liability?

    Any info would be welcomed
  • After reading through this thread, i noticed the delayed flight from Barbados. Our flight to Mombasa (TOM142) was due to depart on 26/01/11 at 19:25. we received a text saying it was delayed for 24 hours and 25 minutes. On calling Thomson they said it was a 'knock on' effect from the plane stuck in Barbados. We received a letter stating the official reason was 'Your flight was delayed due to the late arrival of the operating aircraft, due to technical problems within the Thomson Airways fleet. Despite strenuous efforts to source another aircraft to operate your flight on time, on this occasion it was not possible - Total delay: 24 hours and 25 minutes. I have just returned from Mombasa, and looking through looking how/if i can claim. We purchased this holiday as a package and it was a charter flight....therefore am i right in thinking there is no compensation process, as all the sites seem to be for Scheduled flights. We were not stuck at the airport, so have received no kind of vouchers/hotels etc, as they let us know in plenty of time about the delay. If anyone has similar with Thomson and have managed to claim from them, this would be very helpful. Thanks

    Hi,
Yesterday I was delayed by 4-5 hours returning home from Chambery, France to leeds/Bradford by Jet2. The difference between 4 and 5 hours depends on wether you look at the scheduled departure or arrival times.
The pilot explained that the aircraft had had at least 2 technical faults before its eventual take off from Leeds to get to Chambery. Chambery has a landing slot system so when the fault occured each time, the appointed slot had been missed.
Can I claim compensation for the delay and is there a template letter type available to ensure the correct claim is made?
    many thanks in advance.

  • Hi,
Apologies if this is covered in previous postings on here but I am struggling with the definition of extraordinary circumstances that lead to a delay so would be grateful if one of our excellent experts could steer me straight on whether i have grounds for a claim or not.
I was due to fly to Houston on Feb 3rd but the flight was cancelled and I was rebooked by KLM to fly on Feb 5th instead. No official reason was given by KLM but the ground staff at Norwich airport said that the flight was cancelled due to adverse weather conditions that had been forecast for Houston later that day. Obviously I just went home so did not incur any additional expenses apart from two extra taxi fares but would I be entitled to make a claim for the 600 Euro compensation for denied boarding?
As I said before, apologies if this has been previously answered but I didnt see many questions where travellers were in their home country looking to travel.
Thanks in advance for your assistance & advice

    meteorological conditions incompatible with
the operation of the flight concerned

are given in the EU regs as an example of extraordinary circumstances

So I'd say no compensation if the reason was genuine.
  • Thank you very much Cityboy, that is both excellent advice and excellent news! Sorry I didn't give all of the info but you are correct, the routing was NWI-AMS-IAH and I was only informed that my travel plans had changed when I was checking in at the airport. There were no other reasons to deny boarding, just that the flight to Houston had been cancelled so they had rebooked me for the 5th. I will check my household insurance re the legal expenses cover as advised.
I will keep you posted on progress (or lack of it) as I am sure other people might find themselves in a similar situation at some stage.
Thanks again for your assistance, much appreciated!
