My husband and I were supposed to fly from Paphos to London Gatwick original departure time 14.40 and should have arrived at 17.20. Actual arrival time at London Gatwick 22.30. We were given a couple of vouchers for a soft drink and a sandwich. No information for the reason why the flight was delayed.

I wrote to EasyJet back in September 2014 and never got a reply, so decided to go the Resolver route. I started the case in March 2015. At first things were looking good, but then after 30th March everything went quiet, so I decided to escalate the case on 27th May.

Got a reply from Richard Hooker, CAA Consumer Affairs Admin Officer saying that if I needed further assistance with my claim I needed to contact the National Enforcement Body (NEB) inCyprus.

Surely this has to be resolved with EasyJet, as the plane was delayed at Gatwick flying out to Paphos.

Getting to the stage when I want to throw in the towel – maybe that’s what they are hoping for.

If you are seriously thinking of chucking the towel in just contact Bott and Co. You will give up about 30% of any claim but you won't have any work to do and nothing to worry about. Also they will probably know if compensation is due straight away.

    Hi guys,

I haven't read through the whole thread due to the sheer size of it, so apologies if this has been asked before. It's a bit of a complicated one so please bear with me.

My wife and I were booked onto a return flight from LAX to Edinburgh via Newark, with United Airlines in June 2013. The LAX to Newark flight was cancelled and we were told they had rebooked us 24 hours later, this time flying LAX to Houston, then onto Newark to fly to Edinburgh. Obviously, we would arrive a day late and it was much more travel time, so after a bit of arguing they agreed to put us on a flight to JFK that day, 4 hours later than our original flight. This meant we still missed our connecting flight in Newark, but at least half our travelling was done. We were told when we arrived at JFK to speak to a customer services agent there and they would put us up in a hotel. As we arrived just before midnight the place was pretty quiet and when we finally found a United customer service agent she initially refused to put us up in a hotel until a pilot who was in the office intervened after hearing our story. We spent the night in a hotel without aircon (which nearly killed us lol). The next morning we paid for a shuttle from JFK to Newark and spent the day in the airport, as we were booked onto an evening flight to Edinburgh. We finally arrived in Edinburgh 24 hours after our initial scheduled arrival time. Would we be eligible for compensation due to this delay or would we be out of luck as the cancellation was a domestic flight in the USA?Our original return flight was booked on the same ticket.

To be honest, United were terrible throughout and were very reluctant to do anything both in LAX and JFK, so I'd be delighted if we were eligible for compensation.

    Cheers

Simple answer - no. Non EU airline departing a non EU airport. 261/2004 does not apply. Sorry.

    Hi MSE team and All,

This is my first post and I am a Forum newbie. Apologies if I have not raised this post correctly. I would appreciate some advice please.

I was on a flight from the LHR to Houston Texas, which had a connecting flight via NY. The connecting flight was delayed and I landed in Houston 7.5 hrs after it was scheduled to arrive, at 04.15 am. The car hire desk was by now closed where I was booked to collect my car. I therefore had to take a taxi to my hotel.

I contacted Iberia, who I had booked the flight through and they passed me on to American Airlines, who I flew with. Throughout the time spent in the airport in NY, there was never any communication in relation to the delay, meal vouchers or compensation offered.

On my return to the UK, I contacted Iberia advising them that I had arrived more than 7.5hrs late and requested compensation - using wording from Martin's template. My email was passed on to American Airlines and this is the response I have received:

Thank you for contacting the New American. We appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns.
With respect to your request for compensation based on European Regulation 261/2004, carriers are not required to provide compensation in the event that the carrier performed all necessary maintenance checks and took all steps feasibly viable in an attempt to prevent a mechanical cancellation or delay, as in this case. This also applies toward request for monetary compensation. Our records reflect unexpected maintenance issues occurred; however, the aircraft had undergone all required maintenance and we also took all measures appropriate to the situation, and as such, no compensation is due under the regulation. However, as a goodwill gesture in that we definitely acknowledge your inconvenience, I would like to issue you a $600 Transportation Voucher you may apply toward a future ticket purchase with AA/US Airways. In order to issue the compensation for the flight interruption, I will need your mailing address. Please include the reference number located in this message as well.

Please can you advise if what they have advised is correct, ie carriers are not required to provide compensation due to unexpected maintenance issues. They seem to have reluctantly offered me a $600 Transportation voucher. Would I be entitled to more, considering the inconvenience I experienced? And could I insist that this voucher can be used to fly with any partner carrier airline from the UK?

Thanks in advance and I look forward to hearing from you.

    All the best

Can you confirm if your first flight was delayed which caused you to miss your originally booked connection or whether the first flight was on time but the second flight within the US was delayed?
If the latter it is more complicated and you are likely going to have to test this in court
you should find some similar scenarios on this thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4445417
