You need to find out the actual airline, and preferably the flight number, as Olympic use multiple airlines.0

Im New to this whole forum thing, in a nutshell: we had a package holiday with Kuoni in July 2006, Edinburgh to London to Chicago, final destination Vancouver.
my original flight was bmi to London then united airlines from London to Vancouver via Chicago. We were delayed in Chicago for 7 hours plus and arrived at our final destination over 7 hours late. We didn't complain to anyone at the time and we didn't receive a thing from the airline or Kuoni. I still have all the flight details and Kuoni ref emails etc.
Can we claim compensation as the departure airport and initial airline was in the EU?
All help gratefully received.0 -

Hi all,
BA have agreed to compensate me €600 for a delayed flight back in 2007. I received the cheque this morning and I have no idea what exchange rate they have used?
The cheque is for £429 but by my calculations it should be £492. Could this be the exchange rate from 2007 or have they just picked a random figure hoping people won't check? Has anyone had any experience of this? Can I ask for the cheque in Euros?
Thanks in advance.
Hi Fat-Tony, see my posts #4512 on page 208 with details of what the exchange rate should be. It should be calculated at the time of the actual delay using the historic fx exchange rate available from the internet for the equivelant of 600 Euros. Hope this helps.0 -
Hi everyone,
I am hoping to put in a claim for delayed flights with Iberia. The brief scenario is:
Flight from London Heathrow - Madrid Barajas - all ok
Madrid - Santiago, Chile - delayed by an hour due to technical problem. Then we had to turn back to the Canaries due to someone being ill. Sat at Canaries for 2 hours.
Resumed flight but was diverted to Brazil as tripulation could not fly for longer than 20 hours. Sat in hot aeroplane for 2 hours, with no drinks as they had ran out and we couldn't get off to get any. Absolutely awful.
The flight was due to arrive after 13hrs 50 mins but a rough estimate was that we were at least 7 hrs late.
As a consequence, I got ill the day after we arrived and I ended up on antibiotics 5 days later.
I would be grateful for views as to whether you think I could claim for a refund and compensation and whether an estimated time is suffice for a claim. I checked on the recommended site to see exact arrival time and it wasn't available due to a problem.
Many thanks beforehand,
Eme
Hi their Eme,
Iberia are one of the worst airlines to deal with, I have an ongoing case since 12/2010, so see my posts depicted below:-

Hi all, I claimed compensation from easyJet for a delay from Sharm el Sheik to Manchester. I am ex airline pilot and went on the CAA website, there they have a template letter and also a link to a website where you can calculate the flight distance if you are unsure. My first letter to easyJet was given the usual reply ie safety is our prime concern etc.
I wasn't prepared to put up with that and it was followed up with a phone call to their customer service centre which is Indian based. I could not get much sense from them so I asked to be put through to the UK or the name of a contact in the UK. This seemed to get things moving. As I was claiming for a party of 6 I was told I would have to fill in a particular form giving me authorisation to receive compensation on behalf of everyone in the party. This was emailed to me and returned the following day. Within 3days I had a call from the Indian call centre to ask my debit card details for the compensation of €3600 transfer to my account. They said it would take 3working weeks because it had to be authorised by a senior manager. My thoughts were sceptical to say the least. Was I surprised that on checking my bank account 3 days later to see that indeed €3600 had been credited to my account.
Now I am one of the first to knock so called low cost airlines, but on this occasion without much pressure they did the right thing.0 -
Hi, just wondering where we would stand in claiming for a delayed flight. We flew from NCL - POP back in June 2005 without any problems! When it was time for our return flight after being inboard for just over 2 hours we had to turn around due to engine failure. After we had to get rid of some fuel we eventually landed and got took back to the departure gate to wait. After a few hours they announced they had fixed the engine but as the cabin crew had run out of their working hours we would have to wait until another flight came. We had to collect our luggage and was taking to a hotel for a few hours, then we got took back to the airport to board the flight coming home which went ok. We were giving no meal vouchers so luckily we had some money left. Just before we were due to travel on our holiday the flight was changed from a Thomas Cook flight to a Excel flight whet they are now no longer operating. Does this mean we are unable to claim due to them not trading any longer?
Any advice would be much appreciated
Thanks

I posted the repeat of the FAQ's yesterday morning at 09.20 am, and in the 24 hours since, there appear to have been around 8 posts (or more) asking whether they can claim compensation for flights that took place more than 6 years ago, or with an airline that is non EU, or has since gone bust.
The answer is NO.
YOU CANNOT CLAIM COMPENSATION FOR FLIGHTS THAT TOOK PLACE OVER 6 YEARS AGO.
YOU CANNOT CLAIM COMPENSATION FOR FLIGHTS WITH AN AIRLINE THAT HAS GONE BUST
YOU CANNOT CLAIM COMPENSATION FROM A NON EU REGISTERED AIRLINE THAT IS FLYING FROM A NON EU DESTINATION
Hope that clears some things up.0 -
