Did they offer you any earlier alternatives?
Was your delayed flight a direct non stop flight to Newark ?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
No, no alternative flights were offered. There is only one flight each day to Newark from Belfast. We were provided with drink/food vouchers and we were informed immediately upon check-in. I was able to leave the airport and return later however with the times changing throughout the day I ended up returning and sleeping there. I know there were a couple of people who were able to fly from Dublin but apparently there were only 2 flights remaining and that would have meant a 2 hour journey to Dublin Airport.0

On the face of it, UA have provided you with their official reason for the delay and once the Sturgeon challenge has been ruled on sometime this Autumn, you can pursue the airline (probably via the small claims court) for the compensation owed.
If you have better things to do in your life then you may be minded to accept their offer of 20% off a future flight.
Your travel insurance may also pay out a fixed amount for delays separately.
Thanks for your advice. Do you feel pursuing this via my travel insurance now would affect a claim in the future?0 -
hi, 9 of us flew to sanford on 9th june 2012 after an 11 hour delay at manchester on flight mon305. we have read about the compensation debate and that a decision about airlines having to pay it hasnt been made yet. we are going to put a claim in but wondered if we would be better doing this as a group or individually? thanks0

Together is my guess.
Why was the flight delayed?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
I was thinking of together with the same legal representative. It is something to be very careful of and you should fully investigate the possibilities because if there is any slight weakness with regards to representation the airline and their legal people would exploit this.
Perhaps check if some of the 9 of you have legal expenses cover on an insurance policy.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
Hi there
I also had a delay from manchester to Sanford of 7 hours but on 15/06/12 and at the check in desk we were told it was due to unforseen circumstances.
Do I need to get it in writing what actually caused the delay before I can try and claim for compensation
Thanks:beer:Wins August 2012;£15 itunes voucher, Martin Mere family ticket, sanex bundle, step up bundle0 -

No, but I would. Ask for a full description, do not accept anything like 'air plane fault' etc
And I would also wait until the final hearing is heard first0 -
Now the laws have changed, has anyone had any luck getting the set fee compensation for instance 250 euro for 3 hours or more within EU (1500m)? I'm in the process of claiming this, but I'm not very convinced this can actually be done without court cases and the like.0

The law has not yet changed, all claims are still 'stayed' under the High Court. The full decision (thus making it law) is expected in Autumn0
