whether compensation is due for the Heathrow to Glasgow flight will depend on the reason for the cancellation - was there a reason given?
Duty of care is due irrespective of reason so, if she was not provided with refreshment vouchers, she can submit receipts for purchases during the delay for reimbursement
  • This one is a bit odd and doesn't seem to fit quite right.

Glasgow to Heathrow flight was cancelled at less than a day's notice - staffing issues apparently. BA offered a "re-routing" from Newcastle (not a reasonable alternative IMO as it would have required us to leave home at 3am and drive both of our cars there (luggage space) and park them for 3 weeks - as opposed to getting a lift to Glasgow from family). We rejected the re-routing and booked a new flight for the night before, plus a hotel at Heathrow. Our travel agent dealt with the difference in fare and the hotel, but are we entitled to cancellation compo for this?

I'd like to add that it's not just chancing our arms for some cash, but it was hugely stressful as the flight was connecting to a transatlantic flight, and missing that flight would have affected car hire arrangements, hotel bookings, missing a theme park day, etc. Also the change to flying south the night before only gave us a couple of hours to finalise packing (including for 2 kids).

Ultimately we were not delayed to our final destination but there was a cancellation.

You're entitled to compensation if the cancellation wasn't caused by extraordinary circumstances beyond the airline's control, so if it was BA staff shortages then you should be eligible.

So I have 4 flights booked to Malaga from Bristol today - we cant fly for a variety of reasons so have kissed the money goodbye. (will try and claim tax back)

Currently this flight is estimated to be 1 hour late into Malaga - question is, if this becomes 3 hours 5 minutes late, would I be entitled to EU compensation? Or do we actually need to fly? Or is my only chance of money back 5 hours delay?

Expecting a negative answer but you never know
  • If you don't arrive at your destination late then you're not entitled to delayed compensation. If you're not on the flight then you can't be late arriving.
  • Hi

Our flight to Italy has been delayed 24hrs due to industrial action in Italy. We will fly a day later but have lost a day and night of our holiday (half board).

We have booked a package through Inghams but they are saying it’s not their fault so they can’t help, jet2 has the flight going ahead but we are still out of pocket.

I can’t see it referred to in our insurance, just an amount for the delay but it doesn’t seem right that we have lost a full days holiday and accommodation and just have to bear the cost. Does anyone know if we are entitled to get some refund from our package operator for the lost night. We have two rooms booked so it’s not a small amount.

We’ve never been in this position before so any advice appreciated!

    Thanks

The fact that it's not the package provider's fault doesn't excuse them from their obligation to reduce the price of a package if it's of a lower quality than that originally sold, e.g. by including fewer nights, as covered in regulation 11 of the Package Travel Regulations:

  • Hello looking for some advice
Flights for 3 were booked using Air Canada - Edinburgh to Toronto, less than 7 days before the departure date we received an email to say that the flight had changed from departing on the Friday morning to the Tuesday morning - 3 days earlier. Air Canada offered to book us on this flight or refund - we have went for refund as work commitments meant we couldn't leave earlier.
Are we entitled to any compensation for the hassle / stress of having to totally reorganise the flights at short notice / increased costs so not to lose the rest of the holiday arrangements?
    Thanks

under the regulations you should have been offered to be rebooked or refund. You should/could have pushed Air Canada to rebook - as well as the direct flight they have many different connection options on their website. What date was your flight? What reasons were you given for the cancellation? did you look at what options were showing on their website before taking refund? - would likely have been connection in US, Frankfurt or Heathrow

I am surprised AC could not have rerouted you on that same day. Should have been lots of options routing via LHR or FRA to YYZ.
