I seen to recall there were serious weather issues in California last weekend, American carriers simply do not offer any assistance if weather is the cause of the delay, so writing to AA may make you feel better but is unlikely to result in any worthwhile outcome. The bad news just keeps coming...

It was not weather related. We were on the plane about to leave, then an announcement regarding a computer fault meant we had to disembark. We then received regular updates about AA receiving the replacement part.

did you need to pay for your own accommodation during the 24 hour delay?

no, after missing my original flight and a later possible connection - when i got off the plane was given new tickets for the next two flights, rebooked for 24hrs later and a voucher for airport hotel

I could have got my head round it easier if they had been upfront but instead they kept saying the flight was going in half an hr. Then they removed all info from the boards and kept us in the dark. After queuing for a 2nd time to explain my connection problems I was almost on an alternative flight to OHR but then they doubled back and said it was also delayed 20mins and just wait as yours is almost leaving. Instead the alternative flight left... and my original flight was 5 hrs delayed & made it home 24hrs late.

I don't believe there is a US equivalent of EU261 that would compensate you for the delay. Might be worth checking if your travel insurance pays anything (although may be a token amount)
  • I travelled with Jet Airways from Mumbai to London Heathrow.

We boarded as normal, near enough the expected time. After one hour we were told that there was a delay due to a tech problem and they were trying to fix it. Later they said they couldn't fix the problem and that they were waiting for another plane to be available. After about four hours all the passengers, luggage, catering etc were bussed to another plane. We eventually took off.

My delay in arriving in London was 4 hours 5 minutes.

Can I claim compensation from Jet for the delay?
If so, how would I do it?
Are there any rules for calculating any compensation due.

Bear in mind that Jet is a non EU airline.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks guys.

All covered here in Vauban's guide https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5173888
no claim under EU261. (not EU airline departing outside the EU) maybe look to see if your travel insurance pays anything for a 4 hour delay (most don't)
  • Hi

I was on a Thomson flight that was delayed in 2014 for more than 3 hours, from Manchester to Kos. I have put a claim in today using the Thomson online form however the lead name was my father in law. 1. Does my Father in law get compensation. 2. As he was the lead name does this affect the claim process?

    Many thanks!

None of you may get compensation. It depends on the reason for the delay, and whether it was delayed by more than 3 hours on arrival.

Each passenger is entitled to claim separately, if required, so it doesn't matter who the lead passenger was.

Your claim will have to meet certain criteria to qualify tho, as Leyland says. Please read Vaubans guide to get the full sp.
