  • Great stuff Andy, I have just reached the 'capable of being mortgage free' now have sufficient funds to be able to clear the mortgage (once the base rate rises) or the interest on my current accounts drop to such a level, that its not beneficial.

Do look into the different current accounts to stash your yearly op fund.

Nationwide have a flex direct which pays 5% interest (only on up to £2,500) so maybe you and mrs wsm will need one, or Santander 1-2-3 pays 3% interest on 3,000-20,000 balances-for a £2 fee, but you get cash back on utilities and council tax etc.

Good luck on your journey, it becomes obsessive! ;-)

That was exactly the sort of info I came back on looking for!

There is no Mrs WSM - doing this all on my own, from start to finish. It's all mine :D

    :D

    What? Being obsessive? :rotfl:

Look into topcashback and quidco too! They pay circa £55 for the Santander account, it eeks out the 3% interest! :money:

Just finished selling some stuff on eBay. The junk in the attic I mentioned earlier in the thread. After fees I've got another £250 to put aside towards over payments. Yay!

Got another couple of auctions to finish in the next week, so maybe another £150 to come from them too!

£400 extra would be tidy - that's 1% of my mortgage that was sat around doing nothing!

    Thanks for the support everyone.

Moved some more money from Current Account to ISA as I won't be needing it before pay day. Also, eBay auctions going very well! £350 banked so far, another £150 minimum in the pipeline!

I've now got more than 10% of my outstanding mortgage saved away!

    Feeling chuffed :)
