JSA - under 25 - having to sign on every week and far away from home?

I did thanks and still stand by what I posted
It's hardly a big deal having to get a few buses once a week, as I said before she could get a bike and cycle for free...0 -
OP - she should be able to claim back the cost of every other appointment, as she would normally only need to sign fortnightly.
The JCP are within the rules to ask her to travel further away - some areas have centralised such services as they believe it is more effective than having a single specialised advisor per site. This is allowed and is a local decision. She has no choice if she wishes to claim.0 -
But 99% of the public have to pay to get their nearest JCP, No i am not in London and an adult would pay £3.90 here and to ask this expence once a fortnight is hardly unrealistic. What about job interviews? She would have to pay to get to those.
Travel to interview scheme only covers jobs out of the 90 minute travel area.0 -
Oh dear - let me try to explain again what I have an issue with.
There is a JC within a 15 min walk (free) from where we live.
Everyone I know goes to sign on there and only once every 2 weeks.
My daughter has been told to sign on in a JC 3 buses away AND every week at a cost of £4.40 per week.
On the under 25's allowance that £4.40 per week IS a lot of money.
There will be no refunds as those are signing on days, every week.
I was hoping some under 25's would post here (or people with "kids" in this situation) and let me know if they too are asked to sign on so far away from their local JC? And if they are being asked to sign on every week too?
Thanks0 -
In my area (not London) under 25's have to sign on at one particular office - your daughter's situation is not unique. I don't see the problem, unless you are suggesting she is job searching 24/7 then I'm sure she can find the time to fit this appt in.0

I think everyone understands what you are saying, perhaps they just don't understand why you have such an issue with it?!
In the last big DWP recruitment a lot of those jobs were predominantly to employ advisers specifically for under 25's as this was the group they most wanted to target to get back into work.
At the end of the day she doesn't have to sign on, but if she does then those are the rules she has to abide by, it's that simple...0 -
How far away in miles is it that your daughter has to sign on? The bus thing could be a bit of a red herring. If my girls had caught the bus to school, they'd have had to catch 3 buses, but the school was actually only 5 1/2 miles away.0

Ok, so I found out that 25's do sign on in places separate to normal JC. Fine.
What about having to sign on every week?
I thought normally people sign on every 2 weeks?
Thanks.0 -

But your girls do not have to pay for a bus to school. I am talking about unnecessary cost related to signing on.0 -

But, as I said earlier, travel and job seeking expenses is one of the things that JSA is intended to cover.0
