AXA pulling out of pet insurance

Argos can also cancel your policy, giving you 14 days notice. I think many insurers put in a similar clause - though I can't find it in Petplan's summary!"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0

I have just reviewed and assessed all UK pet insurance policies (including the small print) for a new website. Unfortunately my research indicated that it wass very common for policies to have a clause giving them the right to cancel at anytime.. although Petplan and a number of others (including those underwritten by UIS) don't have such a clause.
The disappointing fact is that all policies are subject to annual renewal and the insurer can choose the premium, excesses and terms! And many pet owners have found themselves with the choice of paying exorbitant monthly premiums or losing cover for their pre-existing conditions.0 -

I've never heard of UIS so went for a look out of curiosity
Positive
No additional % for older pets (they changed this in Sept 13 and put the excess up (all pet whatever age) to £99 instead
Negative
The cost & level of cover which is £4k (compared to the £7k I have with Axa)
Current Axa Policy Cost per month / UIS quote just done
Maisie: £24.56 / £40.15
Archie: £10.38 / £29.48
Mia: £ 7.56 / £16.56
Monthly difference from £42.50 to £86.19 - and with nearly 1/2 the cover level
The jump - especially for Archie - is just ridiculous
TBH I'm afraid it looks as if I will be going down the basic Accident / Injury insurance route (which comes to around £15 for all 3 of them) and putting another £50 away each month to cover other things
All I can say is ... thanks Axa - I can say hand on heart that I will NEVER use you for anything else ever again!Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
2016 Sell: £125/£250
£1,000 Emergency Fund Challenge #78 £3.96 / £1,000Vet Fund: £410.93 / £1,000
Debt free & determined to stay that way!0 -
Maybe some of the "vets" that milk the insurers for every penny will start to get the message that they are killing the golden goose.0

We received our renewal today for our Girl, it was £2896.00...... I called them and it's that amount!!!
My Girlie is 11, and has had cancer and a couple of ops, but a few years back, last year her premium was £550 with them.!!
I suspect they are purposely hiking up the insurance to insurmountable amounts, so that you have no choice but to cancel and therefore they deminish their base, and costs! Winding us down in effect...
So i need to try and get her insured now! thanks AXA!:mad:0 -
Bloody hell that's some increase
, my lads renewal is due on the first of April, I haven't claimed this year so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's not going to be to bad.

sure you'll be fine if not claimed, i have so they are trying to get me off the books...0

I have claimed but not this year, my sheltie has a bad skin but I've been able to manage it myself and at the moment he's fine, the year before i only claimed over £100 so I'm a wee bit hopeful that I won't be stung to much.0

I checked my records and I have claimed in the last year and it was just over £100. I've just received Arran's renewal for this year and it's £455 it was £235 last year. They keep saying that it's because vets fees are going up, if that's the case why aren't they upping the amount that they pay out, I've been with Axa for the last six years and the cover has always been for 7 grand . I'm luck that this year I have the money ( ppi money ) we hope to sell the house this year and we have good equity in it so this might be the last year I insure him.0

I have insured my male cat with axa for the past 5 years. I have been lucky, he has never had any accidents or illnesses, and I have never made a claim. Last years insurance was £78. At this year's renewal it was £144. He has now turned 7yrs so I expect his insurance will jump again as he is a senior.
In retrospect I wish I had gone down the self insure route, as I doubt I will be able to afford to continue insuring him at this rateI'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0
