My AXA policy finishes at the end of January. Currently paying £36 per month. NCI want £285 per month!! what a joke! will be writing to complain and will also be opening a case with the Ombudsman as well.0

My policy to has increased by 83% went from £36 per month to £66.52, policy renews 2/2 so not much notice. She was on AXA cover for life. She has life long condition but treated conservatively with painkillers. No major claims. Currently complaining to both AXA and NCI as clearly NCI do not want elderly pets on cover. Is this fair? I think not, maybe if the Ombudsmen sees complaints flooding in about NCI / AXA we can get some where. Absolutely livid. It would be interesting to see if all the massive increases were aimed towards elderly pets that would show they don't want to cover them as under normal circumstances they only insure up to 9 years.0

Mine nearly doubled in price for my cat with NCI, due to run out this week. Went on a comparison website, and got one with comparable cover for nearly half the current price I think..... and an added bonus - got a meerkat as well!!0

You are lucky that you are able to change providers Shane! Am guessing then that your cat has never had any vet treatment except for routine jabs etc. Unfortunately many people can't change providers because of pre-existing conditions.0 -
Pet insurance is no longer available to new customers from AXA. If you already hold AXA pet insurance, you can continue to receive the support you need from us until your policy expires on or after 1st September 2014.
Oh bother! I was so pleased to read this thread with all the helpful advice & had made up my mind to go with Axa as was hoping for a cheaper alternative to Petplan but it seems like they have pretty much cornered the market.0 -

If you don't mind slightly less cover, try the Coop - underwritten by the same company as PetPlanGrocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

The online Co-op quote is very good for my crossbreed Ruby who us just over 3 months & includes a 20% discount so £17.18 for first year for lifetime cover.

Excess: £85
Cover for new illnesses and injuries, including hospitalisation and referral
Lifetime cover. This means that – on the basis that the policy is renewed each year without any break in the cover – we continue to pay for treatment of ongoing illnesses or injuries, up to the maximum benefit per year, without restricting the length of time you can claim
Comprehensive dental treatment
Monthly Premium£17.12 First Premium£17.18Annual Premium£205.50 per yearA 20% discount has been applied.
Just to clarify my previous post: I had been reading a thread which put Axa way out in front re: pet insurance until I got to the final pages but when I posted my reply I was redirected here as that thread had been closed, had I realised that I wouldn't have needed to have read it at all.
As I am retired & on a limited income cost makes the diff between being insured or not.
What an awful position Axa/NCI have put their customers in! As one lady said itS like a death sentence for one of hers.0 -
The above Co-op quote does not include any of the extras which can be added on if wanted such as 3rd party (31p); pet travel (£1.11); death, boarding, hols etc (1.46)
This suits me fine as its just vet fees I particularly would worry about.
I have had dogs all my life & only one was insured which insurer stopped when he got to 8yrs. They were all wonderful working ESS & bar one lived to 14yrs.
Only one ever had a problem which was a perineal hernia & stupid vet wrongly diagnosed it to be an abcess. Changed vet needless to say!
Same dog got tetnus when teething at 4 months which we intensively nursed him thru with advice & muscle relaxants from marvellous vet.
Vets fees were reasonable at this time.
Only now that I am a senior with limited income & vet fees can be scary do I feel I should have little Ruby insured for my peace of mind.0 -
Also got comparable quote from Petplan which came out at £20.89 for Covered for life with £4000 per year cover & no optional extras.0
