my insurance for Murphy should have renewed in April.

A month ago I got a letter from AXA saying that they could not offer me a renewal but that I could ransfer to NCI.

If I did not want to renew with NCI I had to phone them and advise them. Otherwise they would pass my details on to NCI.

I chose not transfer or wait to see what they would charge for a 10 year old crossbreed with no previous claims.

I phoned and cancelled from the date of the phone call.

They did refund me just over £1 as they calculated that I had overpaid that amount for the cover provided up to the date of cancellation.

Murphy is now insured with Tesco.

My understanding is that NCI generate renewals 3 weeks before the renewals date. So if you ring now you should be able to find out what your quote is.

Also - check you haven't / don't get any emails from 'Close Brothers' about your new credit agreement - I got this before I even got the 'renewal quote' - and they took money from my bank account without me signing a new direct debit, so also keep an eye on your bank accounts / check no new d/debits have been set up

I've always paid for the whole year up front so I'm presuming they can't take money from my account, I'm not working now so I'm going to be very limited in what I can afford this year. To say I've had a few sleepless nights would be an understatement, thank goodness our house is going on the market next week :) I'm just keeping everything crossed it sells lol.

Check there's not an auto-renewal on your c/card (or however you paid it last year) - this happened to me once with car insurance
    Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
    2016 Sell: £125/£250
    £1,000 Emergency Fund Challenge #78 £3.96 / £1,000
    Vet Fund: £410.93 / £1,000
Debt free & determined to stay that way!

Never thought of that, don't think there is as I have to call them up every year to renew the policy, pretty sure I have a new card since last year. I always pay with my credit card then pay it off when the bill comes in. If our house sells in a week :rotfl: then I'm laughing as were downsizing and have loads of equity in it.

I've just called NCI as I've not heard from them. Last year my 8 year old sheltie was approx £445 with Axa this year NCI want £731.59, it's more than I can really afford but can I afford not to have it. My mum died in January and I'm getting a couple of thousand from my dad out of her estate or so he's said, so thank you mum 💋.

Given them a call too, they don't have a price generated yet but are going to sort it out tomorrow and call me back, so we'll see..

Still awaiting my price - they said as it's so close to the 21 days where they generate it anyway I might as well wait for that.

However, just to update those who are watching for alternative options..I switched my dog with no claims/conditions from AXA to Co Op about this time last year, renewal through the door today, with an increase of about £3 a month (from £26 to £29) which I didn't think was too bad - especially as he's turned 8 during the policy year, which is their cut-off date for new policies. Fortunately not had to make any claims to test out the service so can't rate from that POV, but happy with the price, at least.

Yep I moved mine to Co-op too.. not ecstatic though about paying 35% of the costs from aged 10... but hopefully it will keep the premium down.

Yes, it's not ideal but very hard to find anywhere that doesn't have a % excess for senior dogs. If all goes to plan, in a couple of years time we'll be in a bit of a better situation financially anyway so it shouldn't be an issue. Just a bit peeved as now Kiki has turned 8 I don't have the option of Co Op for her if NCI give me a ridiculous quote.
