wonder if anyone could let me know what kind of oats are best for these? I have some kind of hot oat cereal (like ready brek) in the cupboard but before I start cooking I wanted to check so dont end up with a biscuit disaster!! :D

I use normal porridge oats - not the 'ground' type like ready brek, but the ones traditionally boiled with water to make cereal or cooked with syrup to make flapjacks.

No, I wouldn't experiment by using those instant oats. Well, not unless you want your bikkies turning out like they've been made with wallpaper paste.

you could always experiment with part 'instant oats' and part rolled/porridge oats.
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

I have to say this is the best biscuit recipe I have ever had in terms of simplicity and taste. I can't make flap jacks for some reason they always go wrong for me. The dough is great for freezing as well. stops me eating them all in one go.

Got a batch in the oven as we are out of treats and I don't want to go to the shops! although I thought I had oats in but don't so I have used the basic muesli instead and also had to use Maple syrup as don't have any golden syrup in....Not sure if they are going to turn out any good, but thought it was worth a go...

Made these the other day and forgot to put the syrup in. When I realised it was too late as they were in the oven. Concensus was that they were still really really nice but less sticky!
