I finally made these with GD1 today for the first time and they are absolutely delicious. I now know why everyone raves about them.

I used granulated 'cos I have heaps of that (and very little caster) in the house :)

I've actually used demerara as well - that gives a lovely crunch to them, as it doesn't seem to 'dissolve' quite the same during baking :D

  • Does anyone know if I can substitute honey for the golden syrup in this recipe? I've no Golden Syrup in and trying to have a NSD.

    Thanks!

If you haven't got caster sugar, whizz granulated sugar for a few seconds in a food processor, liquidizer etc. I never buy caster sugar nowadays

But that means more washing up :o

    :rotfl:

Nah! Works OK with granulated, so will stick with that :)

Still say they're even better with demerara though ;)

I've used golden syrup, honey and maple syrup - the maple syrup ones are the best IMHO :p. Have bought a big bottle of "Waffle & Pancake Syrup" to try next :D.
