Wondering about using malt extract as an alternative to syrup/treacle/molasses. I think that might be quite yummy. DO you think it's sticky enough?

I have used malt extract instead of the syrup. They were delicious - a mix of malted milk biscuits and hobnobs.
  • Hi guys, ive tried making the hobnobs and everything looks ok until it gets to the baking in the oven part. Then they just wont turn golden and always end up being too hard or burnt, does anyone know why this could be? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

If they are too hard, you are leaving them in the oven for too long. I take mine out of the oven whilst they still feel slightly soft as they do harden as they are cooling.
  • Just went to make these but have no bicarb, do you think they will work without it?

I often forget to put the bicarb in and they still taste fine. Don't really know what the bicarb does. Maybe someone can tell me?
  • Am going to make some of these again tonight I think as I haven't made them for some time. One thing I add now though is the maple syrup flavoured golden syrup you can buy, they had it in netto a while ago for about 60p, but have it in tesco also and it makes a change from normal treacle, YUM!
