Get her a dog and make her take it for walks twice a day.

Are you my husband in disguise?? He really, really wants a dog and so do my dd and ds but Im the one against it lol. We have 2 cats and I work part time, not sure I could fit a dog into my life as much as I like the idea of walks its all the other committment that goes with having them.

The cats will show the dog who's boss.

Dog walking is great excercise, and it will get your daughter out in the fresh air too.

It does not have to be a big dog....

just wanted to say that i was an overweight teenager - i did a lot of sport and was always busy, but never lost 'puppy fat'. i was just always bigger than everyone else and was buying 16/18 clothes (which is not huge, but compared to girls who hit puberty late and were stick insects, it was noticeable!). i'm now in my 20s and the weight has gone even though my exercise is minimal (although i do keep meaning to do more!). i was teased by my sister for being fat all through my teens and it wasn't fun - BUT now i'm a happy size 12 (and about 15 kg lighter!).

i guess some teenagers are just bigger - it happens and it isn't the end of the world! encouraging healthy eating and exercise is a really positive thing to do for the rest of her life, i just know from experience that everyone isn't destined to be thin. good luck with it - i know exactly how she feels.
