Galtizz wrote:Or spread it with soft cheese, hmmmm, doesn't use more calories eating it if you do it this way though.
it's also very nice with peanut butter in it and you can add some sultanas to the peanut butter and call it 'ants on a log'
you can dry it in your oven or the dehydrator, grind to a powder and use it in your cooking as a fantastic flavouring or mix the powder in with other seasoningsfounder of Frugal Genius UK (Yahoo Groups)0 -
I have used it with leeks and carrots in stir-fry... actually really nice but cooking the stir-fry it really smelled like stew... was delicious! Just trying to use up what I got in my veg box.:Doooh look only about 220 posts and I got round to doing my Avatar already!!0

Hello. I've been going through a celery phase so glad I found this thread. I never liked it much when I was younger but love the stuff now. Before reading this thread, I have been having it chopped up with apples, grated cheese black pepper and mayo in a baguette (I bought the celery and baguette to use up the cheese) Also, dotting some skippy crunchy peanut butter.
It's really nice in soup (as mentioned)
I think it's the crunch factor that's so appealing. The offputting is definately the string.
My belly is full but I'm tempted to eat more celery...Lurker extraordinaire! no. 4950

My better half makes a great Sunday Roast! With the celery, she cuts it into inch long pieces, covers it with drained chopped tin tomatoes (into a Pyrex dish). That is then placed in the oven at the same time as the roast pots. When cooked, served with the other veg. Yum.0

There's a truly great celery soup listed under soups in the Cooking section of the MEGA Index.
It's a St Delia recipe posted in the second post of that thread and the poster writes something like....
"..my lot don't like celery but they love this soup..."
And I'm the same. For the first time in my life I now buy celery on purpose just to make this soup!Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. I second Squeaky. That celery soup recipe is lush. I absolutley love it. My mate and I have it for a lunch. 1 head of celery makes enough for 2 (or 3) but we like a huge bowl. At around 45p for celery and then an onion and a stock cube its super cheap, healthy and blooming gorgeous.Boots Card - £17.53, Nectar Points - £15.06 - *Saving for Chrimbo*2015 Savings Fund - £2575.000 -
I love celery and I buy it each week...I use it for homemade minestrone (it is an essential ingredient) for casseroles and other soups, I braise it with onions and tomatoes to serve as a vegetable and finally I make a celery soup to which I add blue cheese.0

I don't like celery by itself but I use it in so many of my HM dishes as it gives such a lovely flavour. I really like it in scouse or hotpot, particularly if you add a little fresh or dried thyme with it. I chop it with onion and carrot and it is a base for mince, ratatouille, minestrone soup, lasagne, and I mix it with chopped onions and tinned tomatoes for pasta and pizza sauces. I really love it and buy at least one bunch every week. I also always use the leafy top bits of the stalks - they are lovely on sandwiches with dairylea!! I don't like it diet style though - raw with cream cheese or stuff - yuck!!Jane

I 'third' squeaky and boomdocker on the celery soup. Apprentice tycoon posted the recipe. It's absolutely gorgeous and my OH who hates celery adores this soup.

OH actually reminds me to buy celery now so that I make this. Also freezes well.Enjoying an MSE OS life0 -
I use very little celery, but loads of reciepes ask for '1 stick of celery'.
So I usually buy it, use 1 stick then it goes off and gets thrown away.
Is there a way to save it? Can I blanch it and freeze it? I know there must be a simple solution but it evades me at the moment.
Any help would be most welcomed, as I have a new packet in the fridge as I speak!
Help please
Thanks in advance
