Is it me but weren't Setanta, ESPN and BT awarded games to compete against Sky's monopoly?
It really, really winds me up that if we want to watch all of the games it just means that we have to pay more to more companies. How is that to the benefit of the customer? What if in the future matches are split between more companies?

Do BT really think that they can succeed where the previous two have failed?

Incorrect. They have already stated that in year 2, users will only have to pay for HD, at £3 per month. Its year 3 they haven't announced. Which they wouldn't, obviously.

So is that a £3 per year increase? Seems a bit steep.

I'm not sure they have stated that yet, though. They have been a bit cagey on how much it will cost in the second year from what I've seen so far. I'm sure they will wait to see how they go on subscribers in the first year.

I'm sure it will go up faster for non-BT broadband subscribers though which would make some business sense, but it depends on how many of the subscribers actually are broadband customers.
  • So if you have BT broadband and Sky TV, do you just phone BT and ask them to 'turn it on'? Do they need your Sky account number? Or do you need to contact both BT and Sky?

I just rang BT, gave them my Sky viewing card number and Bob's your Uncle, although I won't know for sure till 1st Aug.

  • There is another way to access all of these, it does require a Tablet or good smart phone, and unfortunately you can't watch it on your big tv however a tablet is still suitable size to watch on, even with 3 or 4 of you round as we discovered whilst the lapping up some Ashes victories - There is an App hidden within the various stores - It's called "Sky Sports TV" does require some looking for and its cost £4.99per month (you can cancel at any time) and includes all the sports channels (Sky Sport 1-4, at the races, Sky Sports news, F1 and even includes ESPN) you don't need to be a existing sky customer. It isn't SkyGo. Simply register (email/password) and it automatically debits your iTunes/Google account once a month appears on your statement as an in app purchase. This along side BT Sport and free to air sports surely must be the cheapest option (certainly for the next 12 months.)

Hi Lucid Support, thanks for the post and info - we had no idea about this app, and Sky hasn't mentioned it to us. We're asking for info now and will update the guide accordingly :)

    Many thanks,

    On the TV Front....

Sky are matching the Free BT Sports, if you are a Sky Talk and Sky Broadband Unlimited customer. They reduce down your bill to match the cost of BT sports.

I'm on Sky Fibre broadband and was told I didn't qualify even though I pay more for this service! They agreed it wasn't fair and knocked £34 off my bill for 6 months which will cover the cost of BT sports for 12 months and a little more.

Requires a 12 month extension to your phone and broadband contract, but I'm not likely to move as I'm happy with the service.

I was advised on the call to phone back in 6 months time to see if they can apply any other special offers to my account....

Not the cheapest method I'm sure, but might be of use to someone else who is lazy and wants the sport direct to their tv.
