You can budget with cash, cards are just to easy!

I know I've said it before but....
If you can be sensible and use a bit of common sense when you use your CC (thinks, derr, I have to pay this off in full  , derr have I got the money/how much have I spent already on my CC...;) ) Basically if you don't bury your head in the sand like a lot of idiots do  , and apply some thought, logic and a tiny bit of self discipline, then you can put EVERYTHING on your CC :j . Choose one that gives the greatest rewards and you then get free rewards and free insurance for electricals or if the holiday company goes bust etc. Oh and you get around 50 days interest on your money whilst you are waiting to pay off your CC bill each month.
Simple really! I use cash as little as possible and pay my CC off every month without fail.... and before anyone asks I don't have a flash job and loads of money, I earn less than the national average.

A couple of entertainment-related ones.
1. UGC Unlimited cinema card, as many films as you like for £10.99 a month. With the prices as high as they are round here, I only need to go twice a month and I'm n profit. Tae your own drinks/sweets and it's a cheap night.
2. Tesco dvd rentals. When I signed up a year ago, this was the cheapest one. I pay about £8 a month, get one dvd a time but can have as may as I want. So if you time it right with sending it back you can have 2 or even 3 a week! Clubcard points too, hooray!...I like my coffee black, just like my metal!

My Dad stays in travel lodges etc most nights as he works all over the country - he always picks up the coffee, sugar & milk he does not use for us.
I have recently started using my first ever credit card. It is 12 months interest free & we transfer whatever we have spent into our savings account to use against our offset mortgage. Just in the processof paying for our holiday this way - but holiday co charge 2% on all transactions over £100 so I am going on each day to do £100 payment - saving over £20.
Be aware of portion sizes - we used to waste a lot of food by doing too much!
Buy things in bulk - eg rice, pasta etc and go to the etnic area of the supermarket as it is often cheaper.
Do "free" things, we go for lots of free walks, go to the local garden place which has lots of farm animals to look at, visit the pet shop (just for a look at the pets), take a packed lunch to the park, go blackberry picking....kids enjoy it even when it's free!
Declutter your house & car boot whatever you don't use (I am about to go through our loft & try to thin it out - if it is in the loft we obviously don't use it!)0 -
Like most of you who visit these sites, I in the past experienced serious debt. I decided to do something about one day - i couldn't take it any longer...thinking that i have enough money and everything in control then i check my account and i'm about to have a heart attack! how depressing...i couldnt live like that any longer!
I know its hard but i just had to deal with it. searched for some really good websites and came across one which aimed to help people with their finances
there were great tips - all clear, without jargon and just made me more aware. i love their debt and lifestyle calculator! i was able to see what areas i could change/cut down on in my daily life (like not eating chocolate everyday = new ipod!!!yayayay!)
anyway try it out its great and hope it works for ya'll! let's combat debt!
hope to get some good responses!

There are some condiments that I end up buying but seem to use only once a year or so (Mint Sauce, Horseradish, French Mustard). This is hugely wasteful and I have thrown away a fair few jars that went mouldy.
Now I just remember to take a couple of extra sachets when I eat lunch in a pub. It saves a fair few quid.0
