my kids were quite young when my dad died - but they do have memories of him - they know him in photographs and they talk about him when my mum brings him up.
they say you never really die until everyone who knows you dies too - a bit morbid - but I think it means your loving memories live on and influence people.

I'm welling up reading all of these comments. My Dad is my whole world and my rock. The day he is no longer with us, a massive part of me will go with him. It's also nice to know that so many other Dads are so well thought of :o Hugs to you OP xx

  • I'm so very sorry for your loss. I lost my dad seven years ago but sometimes it feels like seven months. I'd do anything to have him back. He suffered with COPD so he was poorly but he died suddenly and unexpectedly. Our whole world fell apart. I miss him so much but I have to be thankful for the 36 years he was my dad. Sending you love and hugs xx

One of my biggest regrets was not to tell my Dad (or my StepDad) that I loved them. I'm pretty sure they knew I did but even so .....

they knew Judi - you always know when you are really loved. just as you KNEW they loved you. it doesn't always need saying - actions speak louder than words.

When my Nan died (aged 96, would have been 100 this year) I did'nt cry at her funeral because I wanted to be strong for my Mum but now four years later I only have to have a look at a photo of her and I start to cry, it was a mistake to put on a front at her funeral. I've never gotten over her. The worst thing about it is the last memory I have of her alive, she did'nt know who I was because she'd had a stroke

I don't know what I would do if my Dad died, I always go to him for his opinion and advice etc. He's genuinely one in a million, he helps ppl and never asks for anything in return. He raised me and my younger bro when my mum left when I was twelve. Again, I don't think he's ever told me he loves me and vice versa but we know we both do. Try and remember all the good times mate

Oh I do, believe me :) I tell him every day (or every day I speak to him) how much he means to me and how much we all love him. He is the best Dad I could ever ask for and a wonderful grandfather :o

those of you who have your dads and can tell them you love them - feel blessed, because you truly are and will have no regrets after dad passes that you never said 'I love you DAD'.
  • My dad's headstone reads 'to the world he was one, to us he was the world'.

    That says everything about him.

Oh blimey, you lot have got me in tears.

    Hugs to you all

    Xx
