No not the job searching the lack of and lack of time to do so if you are going to have to work 30 hours and or maybe not see an advisor who will check jobs
Reducing a 30 hour search to a 10 one is a big drop of time spent looking for a real job
But equally it's part of Ian Duncan Smith's Tory ideology to give people a hard time, so that people don't choose benefits over working, get a job & come off benefits or stay off benefits.0 -

If anyone thinks people choose benefits over a job then they are a moron of the highest order!!
Their policies are failing, not working in real world, they cannot admit they are wrong, so they keeping turning the screw, making things tougher & tougher, thinking that might work & solve the problem.
They are totally stupid & clueless.0 -
It doesn't need to make sense in that doing unpaid forced labour/community work for 6 months stops people from looking for real jobs & will make it even harder, as doing this will be seen as something wrong & a form of punishment.

It doesn't stop people looking and applying for jobs with email these days you can apply and look 24/7 if you so wished.
But getting people off benefits is the hard part no one at the WP or JC cant get you a job that's the effort of people who want to work, I have never wanted to sign on for benefit in my life but glad it has been there as a safety net.0 -
Jerry_Mander wrote: »It's in the regs. You can't be given MWA, or similar, for more than 75% of the hours agreed on your JSAg. As most people have 40 hours on their JSAg, most will have to work up to 30 hours and the remainder (10) is for job searching time.
Jerry is correct.Your adviser has been misinformed as is the usual situation.
What has happened is as of today the dwp has sent out to tenders their plans for community work starting in April 2014 for those who have finished their 2 year WP.
This link says it all.
Slave labour and work camps will start next year. Greedy employers are rubbing their hands together now.

Unfortunately, you are wrong. yes that is happening in April but my adviser told me this is completely unrelated and different to that. The hours are 25 charity shop and 10 job search, nothing to do with 'helping the community'.
I was told they are/have introduced this because they have 6 months before Aptril 2014 to get as many people in to work as they can, and get making everyone do work experience they have more to put on there CV (total crap i reckon).
None the less im going to challenge her about it when i see her Wednesday coming.I really don't think most people have 40 hours job search written on their JSA?! I have 30 on mine and if they make you do MWA for any hours more than say 10 (30+10=40) then its more than doing a 9-6 job and there would be no way you could do the 30 hour job search.
They are going to have to re do the JSA
Yes 40 hours work you have to agree to do, and they say that 'looking for work is a full time job' thus you have to spend 40 hours a week job searching (even though that's stupid.)
So 25/30 hours a week voluntary & 10 hours a week job search for 8 weeks = 40 hours a week.
Just want to point out here, i don't believe anything the JC say, and nor do i agree with it, i'm purely saying what I've been told & if anyone can show me anything that proves in writing this work experience/voluntary is NOT mandatory i'm more than happen to challenge my adviser over it.Save, save, save, save.0 -

It may be mandatory for you but not for anyone else that has been to the JC this week as no one has mentioned it and I was there at mine today. We’ve had to remove your signature. Hi, You have asked for proof that you do not have to go on a work experience placement. Here it is.
The Work Experience programme
The Work Experience programme is for people aged 16 to 24, although Jobcentre Plus can accept people aged 25 or over in exceptional circumstances. It aims to give you experience of a working environment and normally lasts for between two and eight weeks.
If you're already claiming jobseeker's allowance (JSA) and take part in the programme, you will still get JSA and must continue to actively seek work as normal.
Although Work Experience is voluntary to join, it becomes compulsory once you have accepted a place. If you are 18 or over, this means that if you lose your place because of gross misconduct, your JSA can be stopped.

If anyone thinks people choose benefits over a job then they are a moron of the highest order!!
If anyone thinks some people don't choose benefits over a job they are a bigger moron. There is countless documented cases of people admitting to not wanting to work because the few extra quid doesn't justify the loss of 40 hours a week.
You're ignorance is just to reinforce your world view that nothing is your fault, tragic really.0 -

How rude can you be? With high unemployment etc tgeres loads who go for each job plus too many companies use the unemployed as forced labour
If people are applying etc then why do so any falsely claim it's the unemployed persons fault? That's a similar message many WP use going by the medias news reports0
