Been told today from the JC that they've rolled out a new 'mandatory' thing where you have to do work experience for 6-8 weeks for a minimum of 25 hours a week, that got ruled on the Monday just gone.

So even though i've done a ton of voluntary and work experience i'm (and everyone else) is still being made to.
You realise you cannot always believe what JC staff say.

Work Experience is voluntary & meant to be for young people up to 25 years old and that was agreed with many employers.

If you mean them pushing, coercing, bullying you to "volunteer", it could be seen as mandatory.

Yup i never believe what they say, but how can i tell them that?

She told me it only became mandatory Monday gone, before that it wasn't. It's 25-30 hours work experience and 10 hours job seeking = 40 hours.

She even has a list of the places that are in contract with the job center to put people into.

It's in the regs. You can't be given MWA, or similar, for more than 75% of the hours agreed on your JSAg. As most people have 40 hours on their JSAg, most will have to work up to 30 hours and the remainder (10) is for job searching time.

Your adviser has been misinformed as is the usual situation.

What has happened is as of today the dwp has sent out to tenders their plans for community work starting in April 2014 for those who have finished their 2 year WP.

    This link says it all.

Slave labour and work camps will start next year. Greedy employers are rubbing their hands together now.

I really don't think most people have 40 hours job search written on their JSA?! I have 30 on mine and if they make you do MWA for any hours more than say 10 (30+10=40) then its more than doing a 9-6 job and there would be no way you could do the 30 hour job search.

They are going to have to re do the JSA

No, not job search time. The hours you agree to work when looking for jobs, e.g. Mon-Fri between 8am and 6pm. And that has, by law, to be 40 hours unless there is good reason for it to be less, e.g. child care commitments. Therefore most people will get 30 hour MWA but if you have agreed, say, to be available for only 20 hours then your MWA would be no more than 15 hours (75% of 20).
