Then Id say I have had the phone cut off :) OR ask to see how its done and can someone demonstrate a call to the HR team at KPMG for example :D
here they are pushing having a phone as requirement to get benefit and hint at sanctioning anyone who doesnt have one and refuses to get one. they could also say to you that you could use a public phone to call employers.

Its something like £0.60 just to dial a number in a phone box

They can not put that having a phone line the ability to make calls on it as a reason to sanction you

they are even requiring people to register on ujm and have an email address here. before leaving the wp we even had to sit through a lecture telling us about what is expected of us after we leave.

regarding owning a phone they say you must be contactable and if you dont have one you arent contactable and therefore dont qualify for dole. i think anyone who has been told similar if you have evidence then keep it. i say this because if you were ever sanctioned you could put in your appliciation for hardship that without it you wouldnt be able to pay the phone bill and that means they are preventing you from being able to keep your claim open if they refuse it.

I have a phone line with internet that costs me £22 a month. If I make calls this then goes up. I am contactable on it, aren't I? No one can say I am not. I just cant make calls unless someone would like to pay for them plus the VAT

I think this is part of their "get tougher" policy. ie just looking for an excuse to stop your money. No actual interest in if you're looking for work or not.

Just tell them you are contactable by letter and everyone has been since the first penny black was introduced.

You do not have to have a phone or internet to be contacted by DWP.

i agree its just they know people dont want the hassle of arguing the point with them. i know someone who while on the wp they got told they must get a phone otherwise they would be refered for sanction. it is because their adviser wanted to put them on fortnightly phone call appointments.
