Yes you do I have a point to prove that they are wrong and as they told me a cover letter is not important yet want all people on JSA to be able to write one and she was using it as I said I thought the UJM was rubbish as you cant attach a cover letter.
It's too obvious & stupid to leave out by accident.0 -
I wonder if there's another reason why you can't attach a cover letter/message to do with the Law and UJM option allowing access to any number of people in Jobcentres, then you're allowing access to communications which may involve other more difficult UK/EU law.

The lady at the JC said the employer would just look at the CV and you do not need a cover letter which is rubbish because if I was recruiting and I have I would ditch CV's with no cover letters.
If they didn't want people to send one, why is it so important to the JC that you all know how to write one? We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
No idea but as the site is made by Monster and they have one we can only imagine that the DWP never asked for one?

Presumably to increase your chances by covering all options. As you say, some employers will want a covering letter, particularly smaller firms who may actually read application by human rather than computer read/analysed ones in the larger firms. If you apply via a computer program, then the chances are it's read and analysed by computer, so no human will become involved until short list stage. No doubt smaller firms will expect you to post/email your home-written CV and will appreciate a covering letter to support it. Surely it's best that you can be flexible enough to do a covering letter for the employers who may expect one, whilst at the same time, not sending one to employers who don't.0 -
