I asked her where do you put a cover letter to which the reply was 'you don't need one the employer only looks at CV's'

I said why do you and the WP tell everyone the key to an application is a cover letter when you have a site that wont allow you to add one?

No reply - she then made me laugh as she said this 'my other customers tell me on Totaljobs and the like there is no where to put a cover letter'

I replied 'erm no I think you are wrong as I every site I use allows you to have a cover letter and I adapt the one on my file if a job says for example you need to have Agresso experience I add that to the top of my cover letter. A cover letter is like a supporting statement and worth just as much as a CV'

I then went on to say that if 'customers' at the JC are telling her there is NO WHERE to put cover letters on Totaljobs, Jobsite, etc then they are either a liar or an idiot'

I came home and logged into Totaljobs and before I applied for a job I did a screen print of the cover letter in my account and sent it to her. Did the same for City jobs too

I also told her about ADZUNA and got her to do a search for them on UJM. There was 4,006 jobs advertised then told her to add SW1A 1AA to the search and the result was 4,006!!!!

She was amazed as to what I was telling her and I got her to click a job at random which lead us a Transport website where the job was dated JUNE!!!

I told her at least 95% of the jobs on there are misleading, in the wrong areas, not real adverts by the 'companies' advertising and they UJM should only allow adverts from companies or agencies, not 3rd or 4th parties!

She wrote down 'Aduna' and I told her to show it to someone, no idea if she will or not.

So, does anyone here use any website where you have an account to store your CV that does not allow you to send a cover letter with it?

telling them you cant attach a letter on ujm but can on other sites just gives them something to keep in mind when trying to sanction people. they will say you applied on total jobs? did you attach a covering letter? if they say no its sanction time for that person.

Why would anyone NOT attach a cover letter?

All sites allow you to attach a cover letter but the UJM don't!!

The JC say you have to be able to write cover letters and then have a site that wont allow one. How stupid is that?

I have not said I wont apply for a job as I did yesterday via a UJM advert but it was to send a cv and cover letter to an email.

I care not for the idiots who have told the JC you can not attach! letters on other sites. Like I say they are lying as they have not really used the sites or they are thick or maybe both

whatever the case maybe i dont see why you would want to help the jobcentre sanction people.

She stated a 'fact' that you can not add cover letters to Totaljobs as an example and I know that's a lie too as I add cover letters to all the jobs I apply for on Totaljobs, Cityjobs, Monster, Caterer, etc (look if Monster can do it and the run the UJM you'd think........oh no wrong) so I told her.

Like I say it was only me at the meeting and I care about only me so if someone is lying to the JC that's not my concern at all I am not having the advisor tell me you can not add covers on these sites cause they have believed the idiot in front of them

IF the person/s are lying to the job centre or are too thick to think about adding a cover that's not my fault at all

It shows just how little the advisors know

Unfortunately the JCP antics means you should only look out and care about yourself - there are no prizes for helping others....As AP007 says if people want to lie that's up to them, when they get caught out that's their lookout....

There is one person you should look out for when attending your JCP appointments and that's yourself!!!!

I find it funny that the JC would believe what certain people are saying to them, because they've never believed a single word my partner has told them!! ironic really that in one sentence they would call someone a liar and in another believe what they are being told & even pass that info on to others....

i would have just let them spout their nonesense about total jobs. if i got grief about not attaching a letter on ujm i would put them right and then stop there.

i agree but theres no need to tell them stuff you dont need to tell them. people can be forgiven if it doesnt occur to them but to say i dont care about anyone else is not very nice.

No I am going to have them tell me you can't put one on any site in the UK to back up what they say about the UJM

Yes you do I have a point to prove that they are wrong and as they told me a cover letter is not important yet want all people on JSA to be able to write one and she was using it as I said I thought the UJM was rubbish as you cant attach a cover letter.

What someone else is doing is no concern of mine at all.
