I am soon to finish wp ive been told icould be expected to attend the jc three times a week. Has anyone been put on a placement. Is there anyway of finding out the success rate of the wp. Do most people end up back at the jobcentre.
it seems to depend on where you are on what they do with you. for me it seems to be see an adviser fortnghtly that will make your agreement stricter and send you on daft courses. signing on is more of a pain also. they study your evidence more and for me they keep asking the same questions over and over. are you registered on ujm, do you have a mobile number etc. they will check if you are registered on ujm. they will ask for your email address and put it into a search engine that tells them if you are registered or not. doing this once fair enough but they seem to do it everytime i am there.
when signing recently i handed over my 2 forms worth of evidence which seemed to confuse them. i had to explain that one is for 1 week and 1 is for another week. this is because they have increased the requirements to 37 per week and it wont all fit into one form. i was dying to say if you dont like it change it back to what it was.

quote, ''you dont have level 2 and thats what employers are looking for''. i was dying to say that whenever i get cv advise i get told to leave off what i did at school altogether. infact as a result it hasnt been on my cv for many years. now i am being told i need a better qualification in something i dont even put on my cv.
So they are saying you have never had a job before as they are now saying you cant get one without the level 2?

They use this as an excuse to cover up for the failings on the WP where all of this should have been on offer and also they just say this is why you cant get a job which we know is not true

i think it was available at my wp but they had the sense to realise i didnt need it. in this case i think the careers person just needed to be seen to be doing something. from the jobcentre point of view the careers adviser serves the purpose of delivering the bad news that you are going to end up doing a daft course.
  • I haven't yet been sent on forced labour or any courses yet(to my surprise) Been threatened plenty, but still nothing has materialised.

Also been told that I need to widen my job search more(by that they mean apply for almost any job). I was told to start applying for retail jobs. I told 'em I'm not really a people person, so direct customer sales/service just isn't me. Their reply? You need to widen your job search more :rotfl:

Had a follow up to my session (ok it lasted 20 mins) with Learn Direct yesterday with my advisor. Cutting out how ridiculous I thought Learn Direct was for people with English and Maths O Levels she asked me if I use the UJM to which I said yes. She went on the site and said what's your email address? I said 'sorry'? Then I saw she was either trying to check I had one or log in as me so I said 'no I don't have an account and you do not need one to apply for a job'

She said 'really'? So I showed her where you see jobs that say send email to the address on the left of the advert or where you hit APPLY and get re directed to another site to apply. By having an account proves nothing if you apply these ways.

I asked her where do you put a cover letter to which the reply was 'you don't need one the employer only looks at CV's'

I said why do you and the WP tell everyone the key to an application is a cover letter when you have a site that wont allow you to add one?

No reply - she then made me laugh as she said this 'my other customers tell me on Totaljobs and the like there is no where to put a cover letter'

I replied 'erm no I think you are wrong as I every site I use allows you to have a cover letter and I adapt the one on my file if a job says for example you need to have Agresso experience I add that to the top of my cover letter. A cover letter is like a supporting statement and worth just as much as a CV'

I then went on to say that if 'customers' at the JC are telling her there is NO WHERE to put cover letters on Totaljobs, Jobsite, etc then they are either a liar or an idiot'

I came home and logged into Totaljobs and before I applied for a job I did a screen print of the cover letter in my account and sent it to her. Did the same for City jobs too

I also told her about ADZUNA and got her to do a search for them on UJM. There was 4,006 jobs advertised then told her to add SW1A 1AA to the search and the result was 4,006!!!!

She was amazed as to what I was telling her and I got her to click a job at random which lead us a Transport website where the job was dated JUNE!!!

I told her at least 95% of the jobs on there are misleading, in the wrong areas, not real adverts by the 'companies' advertising and they UJM should only allow adverts from companies or agencies, not 3rd or 4th parties!

She wrote down 'Aduna' and I told her to show it to someone, no idea if she will or not.

So, does anyone here use any website where you have an account to store your CV that does not allow you to send a cover letter with it?

  • I did the level 2 maths through work at a local community college. I already have a (trumpet fanfare) CSE grade 1 but as it was free to work and it was few hours away from the place I signed up.
Anyway the teacher was so patient and helpful it was unbelievable and it really helped me with brushing up on things I had forgotton. It was well worth doing in my opinion if your maths wasnt upto scratch.

Learn Direct and the JC advisor was talking to us all as if none of us have an O Level which I have grade A!

    Assuming all unemployed are idiots.

just save yourself alot of hassle and do it. in the rare event you get an interview then you just explain to them your issues. or subtly dont impress enough to get offered a job.
if they said it to me it wouldnt matter too much considering i only have to show evidence of 4 apps per week. so throwing in one or 2 from one of the jobs they want you to apply for isnt much. i still do much more but i only show whats required as i have 37 actions per week to show in evidence altogether. filling in my diary sheets now feels like i am doing lines at school.
