Would you really expect someone who has been unemployed for such a length of time to have such few steps on there? I cannot rememebr exactly but I would imagine it would include internet searches to include apprentiships, directgov, contact employers by spec, local papers and retail employers own sites. I can assure he has been warned more than once, and unfortunately he has also been sanctioned more than once during his claim. And yes the sanctions were reasonable he is not being singled out but I think it inapproprite benefit should be paid to any individual who is not actively seeking work and had no desire to find employment. He is intelligent enough just no motivation or desire to work.0 -

Gauging from everything I've read about the reign of terror at job centres these days, anyone in receipt of JSA for five years who had avoided sanctions would become a candidate for living sainthood.0

The vast majority could not advise their way out of a paper bag. Leaving the employers being flooded with totally unsuitable applications from job-seekers who have mandated to apply, even when they don't meet any of the job requirements.
You find most companies would like to see job-centre staff sanction for every totally unsuitable person that has been mandated to apply. If the job centre was a private sector agency it would quickly go bust.0 -

if you do as you are told they wont sanction you. I say good for sanctioning and the more the merrier. Got to bring down the welfare bill.
Same as those who say shouldnt increase parking charges, I say if you dont break the rules then you wouldnt get a PCN.0 -
But it's not just doing as you are told is it?
On the ground floor my local jobcentre was happy with how I recorded stuff and then the ones on the first floor weren't, they keep changing their minds so you could be sanctioned just for changing floors and getting a harsher bunch, people have been sanctioned due to the so-called providers errors such as incorrect mandating0 -

Go back to reading the Daily Fail you swivel-eyed loon! And hope you never have any misfortune in your life that puts you at the mercy of the DWP.0 -

JSA accounts for a tiny part of the country's annual welfare expenditure; four billion quid out of a total of 220 billion.
The UK will gift over 11 billion in foreign aid in 2013, which is incredible as the national debt stands at over 1,200 billion.
Anyhow, the bandits will get around to sanctioning everyone in receipt of benefits (that's 85% of all households) in a stealthy way by limiting increases to below the inflation rate. Benefits include everything, amongst them payments for the disabled and the State Pension so if you remain around long enough you will inevitably become a victim of your own mantra.0 -
They are also going to go after people with part time work who may not have time or a desire to increase hours so you can't help but think they are going to make things worse for them, they may be forced to attend tge WP and jobcentre appointments and stuff0
