All seem to be either care assistants, agency work or part time anyway.

    Lin :(
i find a general search is usually taken over by masses of catalogue distributor jobs.
  • if it were me i would have fibbed and said i had applied.
With attitudes like this it's no wonder advisors ask for evidence of job seeking and to see UJM.

You have taken her comment completely out of context though. She was coming at it from the perspective of somebody who was unwilling to apply for a job that was an obvious scam.

If the context was different I may have agreed with you, but in this instance I am sorry but I can't.

There is little point on loading confidential information onto an obvious scam job site.

Job centres should check these firms out properly, before they allow them to advertise - no wonder the government appears to have created so many jobs, yet so few can actually find work, if so many are phoney.

The idea is that unemployed people find proper jobs - not possibly get their identities cloned!

    Lin :)
You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

so you think it was ok to force someone to apply for a scam job then? with an attitude like yours its no wonder people hate the jobcentre/providers and find themselves having to resort to dishonest tactics.

The attitude is that they find a job such as the scam ones and you must apply, if you find it's a scam then they claim they will look into it yet you've already given your confidential details such as cv etc. too often many jobcentre staff act like you must obey no matter how stupid, inane etc

I have a question about the work programme and I guess this is the best thread since people who have completed the work programme will have been on it for 2 years and have plenty of experience of it.

Can my Work Programme advisor force me to apply for a job?

I was doing a "structured job search" today and the advisor saw me looking at a job listed by Search Jobs on Universal Jobmatch. I went to apply by clicking through to their website and then saw it was one of the worse websites I'd ever seen and was asking me to copy and paste my CV into a text box rather than upload it as an attachment. Their website also has pretty much nothing on it on the homepage other than a google search and one "featured job". With this in mind I came to the conclusion that it's not a legitimate site.

Here is an example of one of their application pages, you'll be able to see why I'm suspicious of it. http://www.searchjobvacancies.co.uk/waiting-staff-apply.html

When I handed in my job search log to my advisor he asked why the job from Search Jobs wasn't listed and I told him I hadn't applied due to my concerns I mentioned above. He then said I had to apply for it as I was failing to apply for a reasonable job opportunity. I stated again that I thought it was at best a data gathering exercise and possibly even a scam.

I didn't get to ask him anything else as he started raising his voice to me so I told him that although I'm unemployed I don't deserve to be spoken to in an aggressive way and that the conversation would end there (it was the end of the session anyway).

Can he force me to apply for it? He strikes me as the kind of guy who is petty enough to make me apply for it if he can.

the trouble is, they can put you forward for a sanction, then your money stops and you have to fight on an appeal, you could win but you have been without money for a few weeks by then, so it's not an easy situation.

I think they should have to prove their case first, the claimant has the chance to appeal, then the money is stopped, not stopping the money first.

Anyway, what I would have done is lied and said I applied, and if you really did have to apply , remove any contact details ;) play them at their own game.

maybe ask for a different adviser too.

at mine they are making people put a cv on ujm that is publicly viewable. so what i did was remove my address and put an incorrect phone number and then upload that cv as public. the number isnt massively incorrect, so if i was pulled up about it i could say i made a mistake.

wow that's totally out of order, think I would have done the same as you but if they caught me, I would be willing to get a sanction for refusing that one.
