It depends where you are in your claim. Normally, the job centre allow you to restrict what you apply for during the first three months of you claim. After that they can introduce a requirement that you extend your search to other industries, or simply apply to any job you are capable of doing.

Of course this is variable, depends on the adviser and jobcentre, and there are more and more people with claimant commitments which can be pretty extreme (most so called claimant commitments are actually still Jobseekers agreements legally).

Out of interest what kind of job can an advisor ask the customer to apply for? Does it have to match one of the three sectors and times available on the jsag or can it just be any job? I also wonder the same about not activity seeking work sanctions do the jobs you missed have to match those on the jsag or can they be any jobs the advisor thinks is appropriate? for example my sectors are all admin based can i be sanctioned or mandated to apply for example retail jobs? The same with times available to work can I be sanctioned for not applying for a job that is outside the hours on my jsag?

    Thanks

Once you pass the 6 month mark (or is it 3?) on JSA, your 'sectors' become irrelevant and you are expected to apply for anything you are, and I quote the JSAg,..'capable of doing'.

edit: Ah, 3 is it TT?

Anything that the customer is capable of doing, so for yourself yes an advisor could mandate you to a retail job, if you had the required skills or it said no experience necessary etc. If it fitted within your working pattern and was above 16hrs (I think) for a restricted jsag and 24 for a full time one.

The JSA still has jobs listed on it and when you get to 12 mths you normally have 3 jobs listed.

What happens after 6 months is you can not restrict the travel and pay. Ie you have to then travel 90 mins there and 90 back and work for NMW.

You do understand that I am not now, nor have I ever been, nor (if I have any choice) will I ever be, a Job Centre employee?

But a lot of the people who work for the Job Centre don't have much choice about it. It's hardly the most well paid or satisfying work you could do.

it's a day for me to get confused it seems.

I thought you weren't but that post seemed to be saying you were?

anyway, sorry but I do not accept the argument that someone is only doing their job, fair enough if it's the binman and they can't remove bags not in bins but not when it comes to JSA advisers that claim they do not agree with the rules yet sanction people because their boss want s the count up, sorry I would rather hand out the big issue than do that.

You can restrict your job goals for 13 weeks and your pay for 26 weeks

Yes, mine still has 3 jobs listed with the code numbers (they can't fit any more in the box) but it doesn't mean anything any more.

No, I'm not. Actually, I don't think they'd even consider me for the job.

I guess as far as the second paragraph is concerned, if I had children I'd have to take the job if it was the only one on offer.

Mine are all accounts type roles, admin and retail which can include customer services/admin etc.

Applied for a admin job the other day and the co said I didn't have the skills to match the job and would be better off applying for an accounts role! Sigh

it's not the job I have a problem with, it's the sanctioning of people for unfair reasons.

I have been told by people claiming to know, that there are targets for sanctions and they are not being used for claimants that may deserve them but as a stick to hit everyone with.

If I had kids and they needed feeding, trust me they would be fed but I could find a 101 others ways to do it before I handed out an unfair sanction.
