Unless they are claiming some unemployment benefit there is no way to count these people, is there?

So you think the 6.5 million figure is completely made up because there is no way to measure it?

You live in an idealised world.

You have no experience of dealing with unemployed or long term unemployed face to face.
Maybe, but it's one that sees people that really want to get into employment doing so.

Many of the candidates I interview are unemployed.

Perhaps you'd explain what you do and how are you're qualified to know better? Though I suspect not.

I never mentioned anything about 6.5 million

Still since you all know it all, how do you measure the unemployed?

Not the ones who qualify for benefits, everyone who is looking for a job.

    A Labour Force Survey.
  • I stated the number of people seeking employment (Which is Far higher) Not the number of unemployed which is lower. There are over a million people underemployed in part time jobs who are seeking full time employment. Then there are the people who are not signing, but are seeking employment. The list goes on. Don't forget that people who have been placed on the Work Program or have been sanction are removed from the figures as is anyone on workfare.
Nice list. It's a shame you forgot to include all those jobs that aren't advertised.

I'll tell you the answer when I see your source for 6.5 million.

I never said there was no lack of jobs. Straw man much? Are we playing who wants to be a fallcyaire?

I'll be honest and say I can't provide you with a source. It was a figure I read in an article last year.

If you agree there is a lack of jobs, which you clearly do, given your post, would you concede that the vast majority of unemployed are that way through circumstance rather than lack of effort?

Anyway this has gone way off topic by people who are not even on the post WP so I have asked the powers that be to lock the thread

Must go as I have to drink these 6 cans of beer before bedtime! LOL

Well, in that case I'll quickly declare my interest. I WAS on the WP. However, I'm no longer signing as I am starting my own enterprise.

A long slog, but I'll get there!

I have made it clear that I think there is a group of people who will never work, they are fundamentally unemployable and we should not be spending money on them trying to make them slight less unemployable.

Lack of effort? It is a bit of a misleading term, I am sure many long term unemployed put in effort. I don't think it is smart effort, you only have to see on this forum the people who lean on the JC to do a lot of the work for them. Work smart not hard.

AP007 is a prime example, she states continuously she job searches 24/7 but has also stated she refuses to dumb down her CV and has been told that her CV is great.

A hefty chunk of unemployed people suffer form depression like symptoms which is arguably the biggest obstacle.

Ha that is why this forum is just a massive circle jerk. Moaning reinforcing moaning. So many people are missing out on advice because of people with sinister agendas, keep it up.
