We live in a mad world..

I wouldn't say so in this instance. We have a legal system to prevent slander and that is correct.

For example this taking this bully issue as fact with no proof opens up nothing but a world of accusations that can't be substantiated, and could just as easily be a personal vendetta/spite as much as truth.

Taking things like this as fact with no proof leaves the system open to horrific abuse. If bullying takes place within the workplace you gather the evidence and deal with it using the rules of your HR policy for such an action. Anything else is completely unprofessional.

But VP you are assuming someone is going to blab to the jobseeker and potential bully, and then he has to prove he lost the job for that reason. Really unlikely IMO, shouldn't the recruitment panel be confidential amongst themselves?

    Happy moneysaving all.

By taking this stance you are showing an incredible level of trust amongst members of a recruitment panel. It's not just a matter of the jobseeker not finding out about a discredit to his/her character and the possible repercussions that would occur from that.

You are also trusting implicitly that everyone is totally above board, and would not on occasion use their influence to prevent someone they do not like for whatever reason, from gaining employment at the same workplace as them. Most people have more integrity and would not behave as such, but you cant just take the word of someone over events that cannot be proven, when there is the potential for causing another person to be treated unjustly.
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

So you are all for someone breaking the law, even if what they are doing is possibly slander and ruining someone else's career? Plus you have a far higher confidence in word not getting out in a workplace environment than I do.

For instance say you had an interview and someone told the interview panel you are a thief? You have no conviction for said crime. Nothing but one persons word. That approach is nothing but anarchy. Petty and completely unprofessional.

Anyone trying to influence interview boards against hiring someone based on a personal bias are the unprofessional ones in that context and if anything are the ones the employer should be looking at to see if they provide any value to the company. They are legal risk at best.
