Morning all!
Must say I am loving this challenge. Started doing my stock check last night and our 'condiments' shelf was rather full. Told the OH off as he had four bottles of brown sauce open.... only to find I had three light mayonnaises on the shelf *blushes* oh how we laughed. Still, condensed as emptied all we could into relative bottles and now know what we have and full bottles are at the back to stop us opening them.
Made lamb lasagne last night (WW) which will last me the next four nights with some salad, then salad and cottage cheese for lunch. Used up the remainder of the black pud mash for OH dinner.
We've also started keeping a weekly list on our notice board in the kitchen of anything we throw away because it has died and been wasted as a bit of a nudge to make sure we use fridge and fresh first. So far this week (started yesterday and finishes Sunday) we have a punnett of value strawberries that were lurking at the back of the fridge (not saying they were furry but I could have taken them to the groomers and they would have given them a haircut) and one piece of value gammon steak. So we are up to £1.50 already (after scouring the fridge for anything that was on its way, doesn't look like there will be any more), but, it has given us the motivation to stop anything else going. At one point a couple of months ago I threw away so much fresh stuff it almost made me cry - it must have been about £15.00 in one lump so we have done better.
So today will hopefully be 4/7 NSD... going to go shopping on Sunday after camp but hopefully do it at 3pm so that I can get any reduced bargains and only going to stock up with fresh. Hopefully by then I will have finished my stocktake...

No I didn't as I cut them up and scraped every last part out! We only buy value for sauces anyway (and most of them were leftover perishable from Scout camp that were going to be thrown away so don't actually cost!). My OH rarely eats casseroles and home made sauces, and I won't touch tomato or brown sauce so bit of a pain really. Great idea though!Debt Free by 2015: £5839.01/£13000 1% challenge = 44.91%CAMRA Member: Drinking Ale doesn't make me any less of a woman :beer:0 -
Morning all!
Can I please add £33.37 off my £175 please? Tesco shop but done well and still trying to get OH to eat new things (his parents cannot cook, his idea of a slap up meal is domino's pizza!) so we're having quesadillas and curry...lets see how it goes! I've got a pretty full store cupboard and need to get some batch cooking done.
Thanks0 -

Hi all,
I'm new to this grocery challenge forum, but have been trying to work on a budget of £250 for two adults. We have quite a lot of people over, so generally I have overspent in the existing budget. Must try harder!
So please could you put me down for £250 I am going to try really hard to stick to it!
I have already planned out the months meals - it's amazing what you find in the freezer and how you can use up so much of what you have when you actually know what's there!!
Today my big shop arrived with all the meat and staples, costing £101.29. I have spent a bit more than that so will actually sit down and work out where we are at, this afternoon!GC Sept '13: £249.05/£250, NSDs: 9/7!! :j

Two NSD's days on 1st / 2nd. Today I did my big monthly shop and spent £111 in T***o, which includes mince / pork shoulder / chicken / sausages for batch cooking, a gammon to slow cook for sandwiches, a months worth of nappies for DS2, beer for DH, and plenty of fruit, crackers etc for snacks.
Hopefully I'll just need to buy fresh veg / fruit / milk / bread for the rest of the month...Books read 2023 - 49/750 -
Spent £4.35p in C*-*p on milk, 2 x bags of YS pink lady apples and pack of YS breakfast muffins used for dinner.
Got a small AF order coming later which I initially didn't plan on, but I'm making the most of the Hersheys bars they have in stock whilst I can. These will be eaten spread over a number of weeks for treats on Saturday nights. This is £20.47 so will add both amounts to the total once I've rechecked.GC Jan £101.91/£150 Feb £70.96/150 Mar £100.43/150 Apr £108.45 app/150 May £149.70/150 Jun £155.15/150 July £123.74/£150 (includes food, toiletries and cleaning from 13th to 12th of each month. Today's spend has been the grand total of 32p on a bag of pasta (to get change). I didn't plan anything for lunch today but enjoyed a pasta pot I found lurking in my office drawer!
I'm trying to meal plan for the month but struggling for ideas. My mind seems to goes blank when I look at the sheet with my meal plan on! I've got a couple of occasions where OH is away for a couple of days and I need to plan carefully for these occasions - more because I find my healthy eating mantra (slimming world) goes out the window.0 -
