Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 5/6/7. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning everyone. Hope you are all well. These light mornings play havok with my sleep.. I think I must get up and so something, 5.30 in the morning and it looks like I should be outside doing something....
Did plenty of that yesterday. Cut the grass, planted stuff, check the bees, cleaned out the chickens, cleaned the house, and lost of other bits. But ended up making Jamaican pork on the BBQ and jacket pots. for tea and watching the sun go down.
Back to work today, so perhaps I can take it easy! Looks to be a fab sunny day again.

stefejb - have a good holiday!
N9eav - I know what you mean about light mornings! 5am for me again!
Well Im up:D Kids are just stiring and Im still in bed with laptop and cuppa, I love this time of the morning when its silent and I can have some quiet time before the day starts.
Last night ordered a ipod docking station from tesco on BOGOF, these will be christmas prezzies, and a couple of other prezzies too. Today I have to transfer money around to pay for them (which means drawing out less cash this week). Buying bargains like this are the only time I use my credit card and dont rely soley on cash as its online:) But just too good a deal to miss. Luckily I already had the money saved in cash for christmas to pay for it and I got free delivery. Thanks to AIME (hello ) for getting me back in the swing of bargain hunting again after our meet yesterday!:D
Off to the gym this morning for my usual daily workout and then home to work. Might check out lidl and tesco for food bargains later. Orders need packing too and taking to the post office.
Breakfast - cereal/toast
Lunch - packups for kids, sarnie and soup for me
Dinner - a dig through the freezer I think this morning to see what looks interesting :rotfl:
Have a great day everyone and hugs for all who need them

Good morning everyone!
N9eav - didn't know you kept hens and bees  What sort of hens are they? I've long wanted to keep bees - are they difficult? How easy to make honey?
Stefjb - enjoy your holiday :j Where are you going?
I'm off to w*** today, but it's my last one of the week. I go to run an advice session over in Beverley, which is fab for charity shops. I'll be looking for some t-shirts.
Catowen - you asked about my carrots. They are early, as we put out first crop into our polytunnel. This means that we harvest things about a month early. We've had new potatoes for 3 weeks, now. The indoor ones are nearly finished, just in time for the outdoor ones to be ready. Unfortunately, our outdoor carrots are not as good, and out outdoor peas are a dead loss - been destroyed by pigeons   but the indoor ones are lovely - I eat them straight from the plant, then in salad.
I was in touch with Kazonline yesterday. She sends her best wishes to you all, but has a very busy life atmBetter not say why, but I'm sure if you were to drop her a PM she'd let on
You may be able to persuade her back, too.
Have a great day, Penny. x:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -
Good morning N9eav and all to follow,
Mmmmmmm Jamaican pork sounds a bit yummy scrummy !!!! can you tell us how to do it please ?
Now I got my jerk seasoning from a Rastafarian market in Jamaica. An old Jamaican lady at our church goes over every year, I sort out her travel plans for her and she gets me stuff.....Legal stuff!!!! :rotfl: Jerk seasoning and blue mountain coffee.
There are several recipees for jerk on the web, just search under Jamaican jerk. or try the London markets if you are there. Spicy!! beware.
N9eav - didn't know you kept hens and bees  What sort of hens are they? I've long wanted to keep bees - are they difficult? How easy to make honey?
Well they are just plain old brown hens, a sort of hybrid laying hen, very docile, don't sit on the eggs, but lay plenty.
Bees.... well they are very interesting. I would suggest that you consider joining a local bee association and people there will be more than happy to show you the ropes. It can get a little complicated at times, but on the whole the bees just get on with making honey.... lots of it in a good year. I have known a hive make 160lbs in a summer!! Not that mine have very made that. Too wet or dry in this country.NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -

Morning all
Another one that has problems sleeping here!
stefejb - have a great holiday
Penelope Penguin - I'm so pleased you mentioned Kaz as I did ask a couple of weeks ago if anyone had heard from her as I was wondering where she was and how college was going for her.
Well same old, same old planned for me today. Only managed to do half of the house clean yesterday as I needed to do a load of urgent paperwork. So plans for today are w**k, finish the rest of the house clean (it's never ending is it!) and do some planting in the garden.
Hopefully I will get all of that done as the ironing pile is still growing and I think it's now staring to mock me :rotfl:
Hope everyone is keeping OK and take or leave the :grouphug: as needed. You laugh because I'm different - I laugh because you're all the same0 -
Morning:D (bet you didnt expect to see me this time of the morning!)
I dont have veggies to talk to this time of the morn amie, only DD wanting her morning milk!!:rotfl:
Bit chilly n cloudy here at the mo. Done my "lists" yesterday and hope to paint/tart up the front garden fence later (use up 1/2 tin of fence treatment i found!) DH will be sanding down & painting kitchen window cills. Mop Kitchen & Bathroom floors too. Pop to shops for couple of bits but not too much (must watch the pennies now!) and start listening to Paul McKenna CD!!! although all this running around now and not sitting in an office will certainly help to shift a few pounds I hope!:D
Nice to hear you have bees N9eav - Ive got a couple of bushes that they really like in my garden so hopefully Im doing my bit to encourage them!
PPenguin - I was wondering how Kazonline was too - and her therapy course!
Stefejb - Have a great time!

((HUGS)) to Aussielass, and also to all those missing in action - Kaz, if you are reading i hope you do start posting again (you dont have to tell us whats been going on if you dont want to, we would just be pleased to hear from you!!!) That goes for the other missing ones too (TM, Nelski, Kiwi chick, moggins, smokeybabe, to name just a few!!!)
Well, i had a strange day yesterday - had a call at 1.30 from my ex asking if he could take the children out for dinner as he was in Plymouth. I said well he could, but would have to be back by 5 as DS had a football match - he said fine, he would also come and watch  Then said could he come round now for a cup of tea (double  ) I said yes, and luckily DSs new bike had just been delivered, so i got him to put it together for me (next door later said he put the front wheel on backwards, but there you go, not a surprise (shouldve done it myself!). Anyway, he turned up, was really pleasant to me, did spend most of his time on his mobile, which i didnt mind, meant we didnt have to make too much small talk. Also got him to walk, both to school and football (up our steep hills) and he is very obviously not fit:rotfl: .
Anyway, children were pleased to see them, he took them to dinner at the little chef (had offered to take me as well, but i was working until 5.15) and then came to watch the football. DS did so well - scored a hat trick and although im sure his dad was pleased, he didnt shout and cheer like us mums. The coach at the end (luckily for me) then reminded us that next years subs were due by the end of the month, and that they had gone up to £65 (last year was £30) as they are now 11 a side. I nearly fainted when he offered to pay half - he NEVER offers money our way - maybe another benefit of him splitting from his wife (as well as the satisfaction of knowing that the reason we split up fell apart for him). Mind you, he said he will send me a cheque, so i will be believing it now when it turns up (hopefully this week, it really will help me out big time!).
Well, enough waffling from me - must get on before first LOs get here (3 today) - looks a lovely day again outside, so should be fun to get out in the fresh air today. Need to cut the grass before they go on it, so that will have to wait until baby LO goes home.
My tomato plants have not had any more visits from slugs since i moved them, only prob now is they arnt in a very sunny position, but anywhere else and i think the slugs would be having a field day.
Right, really must get going,
Hope everyone has a lovely day,
Take care xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx0
