    Update:

So recieved mortgage offer from Nationwide last Thursday - Yey! Now just relying on the solicitors to complete their work. Had a couple of hiccups in lost paperwork and £300 payment for searches however all resolved!

I have a slight concern which I don't know if anyone can help us with, we didn't realise that Nationwide only completed a valuation not a survey so we now technically have no survey... However we are the 2nd buyers for this property as the original cash buyer pulled out (this was due to personal reasons). The sellers have been forthcoming in what was on the survey of the first buyer and informed us of some issued (albeit minor). Do you think it would be cheeky of me to ask for the survey report? They have offered to share this information already...

Did you manage to get hold of the surveyors report?

I got my mortgage rejected today because they won't take bank statements as confirmation of maintenance payments :( I've been receiving it for over 5 years! But don't have a court order or CSA agreement because we agreed it ourselves.

So I've exchanged on my house and going to rent until we sort this mortgage mess out.

Oh no steph thats really rubbish? Any updates?

I'm getting a bit worried now...from being told the issues were sorted 3 weeks ago today and hoping we could reapply for the mortgage and it be a fairly swift process...our broker told us 2-3 weeks. It has now hit another hitch! We have to have a structural survey done on it. There is settlement in one of the rooms, and whilst this didn't concern whoever did the original valuation on behalf of Nationwide, it's now concerned this person who did the valuation this time. I'm so frustrated...I phoned a company recommended by the broker, only to be basically yelled at on the phone because I didn't have access to the report I could only tell her what I knew. I was heartbroken, and in tears...I keep panicking that Nationwide wont give us the money now :(. On top of that family goes away soon, and I'll have my parents house to myself which in itself is worrying me...because I go back to work next Thursday...probably still mortgageless!

Awfully frustrated . Lender requested payslip and proof of gifted deposit last Monday 15/08 and they were sent the same day . The lender assured us it takes 48 hours for these docs to be worked , however called back today 22/08 and they still haven't been looked at or worked as they call it . Very frustrating as valuation etc have all been done.
  • Natwest adviser called to say the credit score declined our application. He's sending to the underwriters. Should hear Wednesday.

This has really knocked my confidence. Please reassure me that people with old defaults can get mortgages!

Sorry to hear that Natalie. Fingers crossed that underwriters take into consideration that you're a good 41 months in the clear. I've read many cases on here where people who have defaults have secured mortgages so don't give up hope.

What makes you adamant that you want to use Natwest as if they turn out not be the lender for you, there are more out there !
  • Thank you, I hope so too!

We only chose Natwest because we banked with them for so long. We're now going to appoint a broker so fingers crossed. Ive heard Natwest can be pretty strict.

My partner and I have both said we don't care who we get a mortgage through, as long as we get one!!

Frustrated this end . So my broker sent off the called for documents last Monday 15/08 and they were finally checked today even though the lender said they have a 48 hour turn over time. To my frustration, they informed my broker that they had changed their gift deposit letter template and want us to fill out the new one and send it back to them... Therefore , it will be probably another week until I hear the outcome.

So near , yet so far !!!!

I'm by no means an expert on the mortgage market but applying with Halifax might be something worth considering for you.

My partner and I received our offer today and I have a small default from 2014. We went through a broker suggested by the developer, got the DIP last Wednesday, submitted the full application on Thursday and received the offer today.
  • Hello to you all.

FTB - Went into Nationwide yesterday for a 'chat' and ended up going through the mortgage application and got a DIP. All I need to do now is find a property (harder than I thought!) then I'll book another appointment which apparently takes up to three hours!!

    22/8: Offer Accepted
    23/8: Mortgage App submitted
