07/07 - Full mortgage application went in to Halifax
09/07 - Valuation booked for 16/07
09/07 - Mortgage advisor informs us that Halifax can't accept my boyfriends invoices or the copy of his contract, they ask for an employer reference. Boyfriend rings mortgage advisor who speaks to Halifax; they can accept 6 months of his invoices and 6 months of bank statements showing the wages going in instead as their criteria has changed. These are scanned and emailed to mortgage advisor that evening.
13/07 - Mortgage approved subject to a satisfactory valuation.
Hurrah! Mortgage advisor will chase Halifax on Friday to make sure they have recieved the valuation report. She will update us on the progress.
Fingers crossed we will have the offer next week! We go abroad on holiday for a week on Thursday, it'll be nice to come home to a mortgage offer on the doormat. Solicitor has all the searches back, waiting for the offer so we can proceed.
Over the moon after the bad time we had with Nationwide, Halifax have been much quicker! Approved within 4 working days and that's with extra documents being requested and sent. The valuation with Nationwide was approved with no issues, so I'm not expecting any problems. Excellent, I will enjoy my holiday much more now!
16/07 - Valuation carried out.
17/07 - Mortgage offered!
Returned from holiday Friday morning to find the offer and valuation report on the doormat. The solicitor required a copy of the valuation report to get authority to exchange from help to buy, emailed him a copy on Friday. Just waiting to hear on the exchange of contracts now!
Exciting, I can't fault Halifax at all. Much quicker than Nationwide!0 -
Hi
We chose our solicitor from their panel as shopped around for quotes, we then passed it on to our mortgage broker and estate agent. Our mortgage broker advised us to shop around for a few quotes. They notified Precise. We used JMW and they agreed to no sale no fee and have been pretty good so far!0 -

Still awaiting a full offer from Halifax for full mortgage application submitted 1 July. Received offer subject to valuation and employer references. Valuation took place 9th July. My employers references took forever to come in. Finally did Monday 20th.
Called Friday for update and was told that the processing sept were not working on any 'new mortgage applications' but we're rather focusing on people switching products at the end of this month. She said my reference had come in 'after the deadline this month' so would not be looked at until the end of the month. I could kick the person who took two weeks to send it back to Halifax!
Halifax advisor said the processing dept will go back to working on new mortgages at the end of the month. Quite upset to hear this is how things work, as we had originally hoped to exchange and complete in early August. We are ftbs, no chain, property is vacant and vendor wants to move quickly (probate property), so we can move quickly.0 -
