Halifax seems to be asleep. Whenever i contact my MA he says you will hear something tomorrow and he has been telling this for weeks. So frustrating and our compleation day is 17/7 which means next week. Still waiting for the offer.
Give us an answear god sake.
    Halifax has stolen my sleep

I've just had my mortgage offer in from Halifax this morning!

    Timeline:
    offer accepted: 26th June
Full application submitted: Friday 3rd July
Valuation booked in: Monday 6th July
    Valuation done: Thursday 9th July
Confirmation of offer: Friday 10th July

That was easier than I anticipated!

Congratulations. I think they will refuse mine after all. Our valuation done on 8th of june and they have not been able to aome to decision as yet. They have asked additional papee work which caused over my name. Don' t know what else they want. I think our MA also not helping us at all.
Cant see of having any hopes over this. Had enought of listning to MA lies as well as the waiting game with Halifax.
  • After following this thread for so long, I can finally post my own timeline. I hope this may help someone :)

29/06 - Full Application to Nationwide, text received
30/06 - text to show NW tried to book valuation date
06/07 - Nagged seller/EA/broker to help to confirm valuation date
07/07 - NW (and seller) texted to confirm valuation booked for 09/07
    09/07 - Valuation
10/07 - (morning) text to say NW have received report
10/07 - (afternoon) text to say a formal mortgage offer has been issued!!! =)

All done in under 2 weeks and probably quicker if valuation was done as per original date of 06/07. Sooo impressed with nationwide! Can really enjoy my weekend now =) goodluck to everyone else waiting!

    Hi all,

Just thought I would update today as I was having a bit of trouble with Nationwide in terms of the valuation, heres my timeline and what we did:

    13/6 reserve new build plot
19/6 decision in principle made after all docs sent to broker
19/6 full application completed over the phone with broker
19/6 application for help to buy sent off
19/6 text from nationwide to confirm application received
23/6 help to buy authority to proceed
23/6 NW want OH 4 months bank statements in different format
24/6 NW say full month not on bank statements (our fault) scan full statements to broker
24/6 valuation text for 29th June sent
25/6 they query my employment contract isnt signed by me (sign electronically and post back)
--- heard nothing for 5 days
30/6 text from new build department to say valuation was carried out
30/6 broker phones to say our application quite high up and should be dealt with soon; sends us quotes for income protection, life insurance buildings contents.
02/7 broker emails to say valuation was accepted and NW signing off documents and hope to offer tomorrow :o
03/07 turns out there was an error with the report looking at offering monday/tuesday
06/07 broker chases Nationwide regarding error, still ongoing
07/07 broker chases error again with Nationwide, Still nothing happening. At this point us and the broker were getting quite annoyed as it was a simple ipad error from the surveyor that cuold be corrected in a matter of minutes.
08/07 still no update in report so broker emailed the manager (?) or one of the brokers high up contacts within the bank to look at our case
09/07 the manager person had escalated our case and the report was updated!
10/07 NW texted to say the valuation was fine
10/07 NW text to say offer was being issued!:D:T

My advice - badger every day or nothing will get done. Brokers do have contacts higher up than the call centre advisors to get things escalated for you; we needed it quite urgently as ours is a new build and our exchange date is next week!

    good luck all:D

My brokes has been telling me you get it tomorrow or day after. I have been hearing that for too long.
Can't we just ring Halifax ang find out what has been happening as i just dont want to be rely on my broker any more. I get very upset when i see that people have managed to get their offer within 2-3 weeks after the valuation been carries out.
I havnt slept for weeks and have been feeling sick.
I had to give mu marraige certificate and a letter from my employer due to the fact that i have my maiden name on my passport and married name on my pay slip. Is anybody in this boat with me

I agree that Halifax seems to be asleep this week.

We applied directly to Halifax, mortgage interview on June 30th. Received call on July 2nd asking me to bring payslips and identity documents, and signed 3rd party disclosure form in to branch, which I did the same day. Was also advised they would contact our employers to verify income, and they volunteered they would email me when that happened so we could chase up the responses with our employers to keep things moving quickly. It's been over a week and they have not contacted to confirm they've written to employers yet.

Valuation and survey took place on Wednesday, which is good, just annoyed that things appear stalled at the employers reference stage...

We are ftb, there is no chain, the property is vacant so we can move in as soon as mortgage comes through. We have an 8 week old baby and our one bed flat is feeling very cramped!
  • Well, yesterday we made the massive decision of walking away form our current mortgage broker and starting the process with a new one two months into the process.

The ex-broker just instilled zero confidence in us. I raised concerns to OH on the first meeting but he said to give her a chance. The let to buy mortgage was offered at a much lower amount than we needed, she had never handled an appeal before and advised us not to, but we did anyway, This was rejected on what we considered an unacceptable basis (comparable rental income was not considered) so we asked for this to be re-assessed with additional evidence and for it to be escalated. I was doing daily checks with the broker to chase the progress and all I got was 'i'll email the business development manager'. I asked her to stop emailing and CALL him as we needed a decision. Without us getting the required amount on the let to buy we couldn't proceed with the residential. I still haven't heard back (nearly a month since the original appeal). Then I was on the lenders website and reading their criteria and I saw it needed applicants to be UK resident for three years - I've only been back in the UK for 22 months, so why on earth was she putting us forward for this product?

I spoke to somebody at work who recently got a mortgage and has been in the UK for 12 months and how she got around it. She recommended speaking to her broker, who a few people at work have used. I called him to see if he could possibly help and ended up crying on the phone! :( He was a bit shocked by the process and asked if eh could call me back with a bit of research. AN hour later he has found products that were never mentioned to us (including a BTL from our current mortgage provider) and we had a meeting yesterday with him.

Have now restarted the process of getting a BTL on the property that is 2% cheaper interest rate, free valuation, cashback on legal fees (or free if you use the lenders solicitor but we have our own) and a reduction in repayments of £300 compared to what was being offered previously, plus a different product with our current lender on the residential. We can also apply for these simultaneously and the new broker will put notes on the application to outline what is going on.

So much more confidence in the situation now, but angry that we were never offered these products before by the other broker, and that she was going for a product that I didn't fit the criteria. Considering asking for our valuation fee of nearly £600 to be reimbursed and for the fee we paid her to be refunded.

So worried that we might lose out on the house though! Fingers crossed!

07/07 - Full mortgage application went in to Halifax
    09/07 - Valuation booked for 16/07
09/07 - Mortgage advisor informs us that Halifax can't accept my boyfriends invoices or the copy of his contract, they ask for an employer reference. Boyfriend rings mortgage advisor who speaks to Halifax; they can accept 6 months of his invoices and 6 months of bank statements showing the wages going in instead as their criteria has changed. These are scanned and emailed to mortgage advisor that evening.
13/07 - Mortgage approved subject to a satisfactory valuation.

Hurrah! Mortgage advisor will chase Halifax on Friday to make sure they have recieved the valuation report. She will update us on the progress.

Fingers crossed we will have the offer next week! We go abroad on holiday for a week on Thursday, it'll be nice to come home to a mortgage offer on the doormat. Solicitor has all the searches back, waiting for the offer so we can proceed.

Over the moon after the bad time we had with Nationwide, Halifax have been much quicker! Approved within 4 working days and that's with extra documents being requested and sent. The valuation with Nationwide was approved with no issues, so I'm not expecting any problems. Excellent, I will enjoy my holiday much more now!
