    Nationwide application through broker (L&C)

6th Sep - First viewing (£120,000 guide price)
6th Sep - Decision in principle (based on £115,000)
8th Sep - Conveyancing quote from local (friendly and personally recommended solicitor)
9th Sep - Second viewing (with the in-laws and without my rose-tinted specs!). Lots of work needed
    10th Sep - Offered 95,000 (declined)
11th Sep - Spoke to agent, increased offer to max of £105,000 (so much work needed!)
12th Sep - Offer accepted! Solicitor instructed and broker is getting back to me with a lender! (edited...will be applying to Nationwide)
15th Sep - ID shown to solicitor, mortgage protection/critical illness cover arranged. Payslips sent to broker at L&C
16th Sep - Full application sent in to Nationwide, DIP received, payslips/bank statements sent to broker (L&C)
22/9 - Survey contract received (Nationwide have instructed Countrywide :( )
23/9 - Email received to say valuation is due to take place today

Still waiting on draft contract from the vendors. Offer was accepted two weeks ago, no chain on either side and house has been on the market a few times in the last year. I'm far too impatient for this process!

Solicitors haven't asked me for any money yet, last time I checked they said they'd send out a letter once they'd had documents from the sellers and could commence with searches.

    30/9 - Valuation done
6/10 - Nationwide mortgage offer received in the post, Valuation/survey details received via email. Property info and land reg details received from solicitors and searches paid for.

Felt like I'd been waiting ages for something to happen, and then everything started moving at once!

    Halifax application (through broker)

    18/9/14 - DIP
    23/9/14 - First viewing
24/9/14 - Made an offer (our dream property, we couldn't believe we had found it!)
    24/9/14: Offer accepted
25/9/14: Solicitor instructed. Sent all requested info to broker and estate agents. Full application submitted to Halifax, via our broker.
29/9/14: Halifax requested more documents (bank statements) to support application. Documents requested from our bank.
    6/10/14: Valuation takes place
7/10/14: The last of the supporting documents sent to Halifax.

8/10/2014: Bank statements we sent were not sufficient, more statements requested from Natwest. Hopefully they will arrive soon so we can send them to Halifax. Natwest have been really slow in sending out the information we're requesting from them. We've been really clear - "Please can I have a bank statement for these dates". But they always seem to miss out a month or in this case, two months!

Broker is getting irritated, seller is getting annoyed and we, as the potential buyers, are constantly on edge. I'm forgetting what it felt like to be able to relax!

  • Can I join in?

I've been lurking around in these forums for ages, I've posted once or twice but generally hang around in the Tax forum. Its been very informative and useful.

We are FTBers and after 6 months of searching, 56 house viewings and approx. 1500 miles of driving, we've finally had an offer accepted on a 4 bed semi in Colchester. AT LAST!

Contacted my mortgage broker this evening to get the ball rolling on the mortgage application - we've already had an AIP for a slightly lower amount but mortgage affordability checks say we can borrow almost £80k more than we need. Spent the whole evening sending emails, gathering all of the supporting documentation our broker will need...bank statements, proof of ID, the usual stuff. Trying to get on top of things and stay organised - TODO lists, everything compiled in an Evernote notebook, spreadsheets etc.

Just got to choose a solicitor from a shortlist of comparisons and hopefully get the legal ball moving tomorrow.

Our daughter starts school next September and the application deadline in Essex is mid January so we're really aiming to exchange by December, so an 8-10 week turnaround. We're a bit more flexible on completion as I'm sure nobody wants to compete right on top of Christmas, but we really need to exchange in time for school applications!

Wish us luck, good luck everyone else!
  • I have submitted my full mortgage application signed etc yesterday, the fees were paid last monday

I hope they book my valuation, I want to move in end of this month!!!
